PS3/Xbox 360 SOUL CALIBUR V Stick

I put up a gallery of photos for the PS3 version.

I have a few notes about it.

The manual says about the front USB ports:
2 USB ports are included for connecting headsets and keyboards for online game play.
Do not connect any other accessories except headsets or keyboards.
HORI is not responsible for any damages or data loss due to mishandling of the product.
Do not connect any recording medium (i.e. USB memory) since the USB ports have over current protection.
I plugged the stick into my PC, which detected a USB Game Controller and a Generic USB Hub. When I plugged in an SD card, it did not register. Okay, well, they warned me. So I plugged in a keyboard, but that also did not register. Odd. Same situation on a PS3.

When I unplugged the stick, then plugged it back in with the devices already attached to the front USB ports, they were properly detected. After this initial detection, I could connect each recognized USB device at will while the stick was already connected, even on, say, the PS3, when I had done the detection on a PC. It seems like the PCB remembers the device.

USB flash devices seemed to work fine, btw, but be aware of what the manual states.

My HHKB2 did not work with the front USB ports, maybe because it implements a USB hub also. Other USB keyboards worked fine.

The heat shrink covering on the quick connects works pretty well. It stays in place, yet bites your fingers less than the bare metal. I was able to get all of the connectors off with no tools on the first try.

Slide the top panel to the right when removing it, or the JST connector on the joystick will get caught on the case. I see Dremels in many SCV case’s futures.

The JLF does get a proper connector.

It seems like a pretty solid stick, especially for $99. I haven’t modified this one; I ordered a 360 version for that. There seems to be enough room for a Neutrik RJ45 receptacle next to the cable bay.

I see the narrow joystick hole in the case as a design mistake… It’s a pain to have to take off the baseplate to put on the LS-32 or an alternate joystick that doesn’t fit into that space from the top.

Why put the buttonhead screws on top then? Every designer’s used buttonheads to allow you to take the faceplate off! I just think somebody Hori made a design mistake…

…and yeah, I agree. Some people are going to put Dremels to widen that narrow hole. Darn shame. Could’ve been avoided if they just widened the thing a bit or didn’t divide the stick and 30mm button areas the way they did!

Figure i’ll throw this up here, save people some time with a multimeter.
The Guide signal is on the other pin set going to the daughter board (the one without the back button). If we’re looking at the picture where back is labeled, its the 3rd pin in from the left, on the right connector.

Finally got to install a chimpsmd
into my SCV stick.

I found me a part of a USB cable and some header pins so instead of cutting the sticks USB cable I just rigged it up.

ChimpSMD is zip tied under the SCV PCB

I actually did this to mine.

Just cut the first (red) wire on the connector to the left in the pic and connect it to your SMD. Then bridge the pcb’s connector to ground to make the switch “always on” that way the face buttons will stay assigned to l2 / r2.

I tried plugging my Astro Mixamp into the the headset port and it doesn’t work. Any idea why?

Loose wire? Open that sucker up and find out. Or it could be your headphones. Try using it with another device.

Hori Soul Calibur V joysticks are on sale, $50 off at GameStop.com
NOTE: Sale does NOT include price of shipping…

This should lessen the pain a bit for people… These joysticks are excellent and moddable with plenty of Sanwa/Seimitsu parts support unlike a certain $200 joystick… and I don’t mean the Mad Catz FightStick V.S. which has excellent mod possibilities.

(Apart from my quibble about having to open open the base to install a new joystick, it’s a very good case for mods.)

NewEgg is selling these for $90 with free shipping, both on their website and on eBay.

I wonder why there’s such a big price cut??? I could understand back towards the release – I got mine about 2 months after release – but 33% off this time of year is kind of early… We’re not even in the holiday season!
(Is there that much inventory still in supply???)

Still, this kind of sale makes me want to pull the trigger and go ahead and buy another one of these (maybe a 360 version to be outfitted as a Multi-Console stick) instead of waiting for the Fighting Edge. Too many unknowns about that FE joystick and the more I hear about it, the less I like.

The SC V, on the other hand, is fairly solid and well designed excepting that small alternate joystick lever installation issue…!

Hi, I plan on buying this stick tomorrow, mind if someone answers a few questions?
Is it difficult to replace the plexi? I would replace it with custom art work and remap the buttons ala street fighter button set-up.

the buttons are already in normal street fighter configuration plexi easy to replace http://www.tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/?loc=products&cat=18

Very nice stick indeed, I absolutely love this as a base for my VOOT stick, I believe the reason that they are putting this on sale so early is to make room for their fighting edge. That would be my only guess but it really doesnt matter as it gives the community access to one of the best sticks on the market at a great price.

Also, it’s really only %33 percent off if you count MSRP. Most places are selling this for $99 now, not $150. So the NewEgg deal is really $10 off plus free shipping, which probably saves you about $15. $25 off of this stick is a great deal, nonetheless. Even though I don’t really need another stick, I’m seriously thinking about buying this one.

Does anyone know what all the other signals on the top part of the pcb are, besides back?

Other than back being pin 4 on CN4, guide/home is pin 6 on CN3.

What about power and ground? Basically I’m trying to power the other pcb without the use of the main hori one. Thanks

Power and Ground are pin 1 and pin 4/5 on the USB respectively.

I’m not using the main hori board so I don’t have that usb cable. Basically I need to know the pin outs of the two ribbons.

I’m considering ordering one off NewEgg, but for those that have one, how difficult is it to remove the artwork? I’ve been reading reviews of the stick and one of them pointed out it was difficult to get the artwork off compared to other sticks.
