Search conked out and I searched back a couple pages and found nothing so I thought I would drop the thread here as I don’t care about the other games in the collection, only need information on 3S and how it works with a PS3’s backwards compatibility. Sony says there aren’t any major problems, but what do they know? From what I also read, Mad Catz TE stick gets no love from the emulation so if I’m not willing or too lazy to mod my PS3 TE stick, will I be unable to use it to play SFAC?
I want to get back into 3S with some friends, but if there are these problems, I’d like to know before I drop 30 bucks on something I can’t play properly.
I’ve tried the collection on a friend’s backwards compatible model, and it worked. Unfortunately, none of our sticks worked, one of which was a Mad Catz TE. That is, our sticks didn’t just plug n play.
Dunno what to tell ya. If you want to play with a stick, you’ll probably have to find another avenue unless someone’s hacked up a solution.
Is it really a necessity for it to be running on the PS3? 'Cause you could use your stick(s) on the PC with an emulator, the fidelity for 3S goes as follows:
Arcade PCB (duh) > CPS3 emulation > SFAC PS2 port >>>>> DC 3S port
I wouldn’t know about the Xbox release of SFAC, but the PS2 port has some seriously wack stuff going for it, and slowdowns are definitely noticeable sometimes (when you superjump for example). Running SFAC on a PS3 emulating a PS2 game that emulates an arcade game with issues…Well, I wouldn’t do it, these little problems and discrepancies are bound to stack up.
When I played on my old roomates’ PS3, I would use a usb to ps2 converter, and plug my arcade stick into, and then run that into the ps3…and it worked. We played the anniversary collection, and I had the Tekken 5 stick…so, you can grab a converter and use a ps2 stick. The converters are mad cheap.
It’s more about just having the accessibility of it. The best solution would be on the PS3, I have a PS2 in a different room and I could technically play it on my PC, but my 19" isn’t really enjoyable to share when it’s easier and much better to play on a 42". Just preference in the end and needing to have a bunch of converters and stuff is a hassle. Well it’s good to know this information anyways.
Just wanted to chime in with something in case others are interested in playing 3s on PS3.
Even if you have the PS3 hooked up to a CRT TV, it WILL have input lag.
It’s around 2-3 frames if I remember correctly.
Not too bad for casual play, but unacceptable for tourny practice.
I’m not sure if it’s strictly PS2 games either, so keep that in mind.
I know this thread is for PS3 and the PS2 anniversary collection. But does anyone know if the TE works with the original xbox version when played on a 360?
I’m not sure about PS3 TEs but my 360 TE worked with Dead or Alive 3 which is an original xbox game. I just wanna know if anyone knows if it works with the xbox version of the Anniversary collection. I’d rather not buy it and find out it doesn’t work.
I know an SE will work, but there seems to be a little bit of input lag and occasional slowdowns when super jumping on some stages. Namely the Yun/Yang stage.
I did some testing. Looks like the Madcatz TE sends a digital signal only. SFAC is only compatible with an analog signal. Hope this helps. PS3 version only btw.
