This just starting happening today and it’s the first time I have experience this. My ps3 keeps shutting off on me. I also try to turn it back on but it will shut off after a few seconds. Anyone else having this?
what model are you using? phat of slim? and how many GB is the system menu.
This is the Yellow Light of Death known as YLOD. This could be your thermal compound malfunctioning. You’ll need to fix it yourself or send it to SONY (150 dollars) to get it fix.
yellow light of death im afraid, it happened to me whilst i was playing hd remix, the ps3 just switched itself off n when i tried to reeboot it, it just switched off again after 2 seconds, luckily mine was still under guarantee so i just got mine replaced at the shop i bought it from, i sure hope yours is still guaranteed otherwise expensive to get new one, good luck
is one of the fattys. but it does sounds like it is the YLOD :(. dammit. thanks guys.
Lost my two original 60gb PS3s to the YLOD. I now have two refurb units ($300 poorer for it), but the slim is a lot quieter than the fat PS3s
gopher mods
Does this YLOD happen as often as the RROD like the Xbox? I ask because my brother owns one of the first batches of ps3’s that came out (a fatty) and he has never had problems with it since purchase. I mean he treats it like shit too cus all of his usb ports (yes all 4) are fucked up. Nigga can’t even use the damn thing if his sixaxis dies lol apparently in order to sync a controller to the ps3 you have to first plug it in through the port and all of his are fucked lol
Anyway…I recently bought a 160gb slim and am just curious as to what I can do to prevent this from ever happening to my unit. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I got the YLOD last year, and I found that there are some businesses that will fix your PS3 for about 75 bucks on Ebay. The only shitty part is that its 75 bucks to fix it, plus about 30-40 bucks to ship it to them, so it ends up being about 120 anyways. The good part is that you get your own PS3 back, and not somebody elses refurb…
What ever the OP chooses do not send it to Sony. I got the YLOD twice, and yes I sent mine to Sony. It broke down again 1 month later after the 30 day warranty. >_>
Any electronics shop can do the same thing for 60-70 bucks. Sadly once you get YLOD on the fatties it goes through refurb hell. It’s almost like there is no permanent fix. Most people I’ve talked to get YLOD multiple times, your best bet is to repair it for cheap or get a slim. What ever you do, DON’T send it to Sony.
Send it to Sony. Ask for a slim tho. You won’t be getting back your PS3 anyway. This defect has soemthing to do with the original, fat PS3s.
YLOD. Time for a repair or a replacement.
Send it off to Sony but don?t expect the same console or a new a new one in return. You?ll be getting a console that someone else has had break down on them, that Sony has fixed.
PS3 is a hot machine and shit melts down, chances are at some point in time you will have the same problem with the replacement. Companies want your money and things are not made to last years beyond the warranty anymore.
I binned my SEGA Master System the other day but before I plugged it in to see if it worked for a laugh and the console still works after all these years. Sadly Duck Hunt has not aged well?
