Is there any reason that the PS3 has one more frame of input lag? The console can’t handle it, code not optimized, etc.?
The reason for this is currently unknown.
I’m bringing this back, wondering about super if we have any differences?
Thanks for running that test, RoboKrikit. I’m also interested in your HDR results. Maybe I’ll test out T6 and MvC2 at some point to see how robust the input lag difference is (dunno why I own those games for both systems since I’m terrible at both, but whatever–at least it lets me run quasi-interesting tests!).
thanks man!
Damn, really annoyed that this is still the case with SSF4. Does it totally break the experience for people who play both versions? I’ve read opinions here and there, but haven’t really seen what the opinion is across the board.
Was there any comparison tests to the arcade version?
Shinsho & Robo, if you could also do a general speed test on HDR, that would be interesting to see. There have been a ton of speculations on that the 360 on speed 3 is faster than Ps3 on speed 3 and etc. If you guys have time to do a test like that It would be most interesting.
It’s not going to totally ruin your experience playing the game, most likely. 1 frame of lag can be incredibly hard to adapt to for some serious tournament players used to having no input delay, or those using characters who require INCREDIBLY tight timing on moves or links, but the truth is you can probably adapt to it in a few rounds.
My friend has an HDTV which has slightly worse input lag than my Panny G15, but I find it pretty easy to adapt after maybe two or three practice rounds.
Plus if you have acces to both, play on 360 primarily and switch to PS3 if you know a PS3-only tourney is coming up (like EVO for example :P)
The TE-S for PS3 has lag. No joke, I have just checked using a TE-S and a HRAP-3 SA and I found that many combos had different timing on the TE-S really. Maybe this is no new sorry if that’s the case.
You probably knew this was coming.
Input lag is measurable with tools
Human estimates of lag are unreliable
If you’re right and one of those really is different, it could be:
A. Every TE-S ever made
B. Every HRAP3 SA ever made
C. Just your TE-S
D. Just your HRAP3 SA
Before you started telling people that “the TE-S for PS3 has lag” you should really have confirmed it by measuring it first, or just asked if it had been tested because it seems wrong to you. At this point you are only creating a rumor.
this really sounds like some fanboyism in this thread…
it comes down to this.
learn how to play on both systems. the pros do it, why dont you?
if you dont feel like you can hit 1 frame links on the other system. go for combos without those 1 frame links.
I don’t see the fanboyism. People are interested in what the SF4/SSF4 input lag difference is between the two systems and why, and we’re posting about it.
Interesting thread…
Have there been any conclusive tests comparing PS3 to VGA for standard component input on a regular CRT ? It seems like all the tests here show SSF4 at its native resolution (720p) or higher - any chance a test can be done for a CRT tv’s native resolution of 480i ? Are there any differences when downscaling the image ?
This is a pretty important find, imo, even if most casual players can’t feel 1 additional frame of input lag.
I’m glad that Robokrikit and shinshoryuken posted some definitive results and already controlled for the PS3’s upscaling issue.
The funny thing is, even the pros play on both systems. They may note a difference between them, but they don’t whine about it all day like the people on SRK looking for an excuse for loosing.
It’s the equivalent of any other game or sport; conditions change. Football players don’t try to ban winter play because it’s cold or snowy. Baseball players play on 105 degree days during the summer and near freezing weather during the playoffs.
There some people here that are legitimately interested in the technical differences. Others just want the excuse. To the latter I say,
KEEP CRYING BABIES!
Me I count 2 frames. :wonder:

*If it would have been only one frame, nearly no one would have noticed the difference.

[]Both are original stick from their respective system, PS3 TE stick for PS3 & the other is the 360 TE stick.
[]Only swaped the same HDMI cable behind the consoles
[]720P, Stereo 2ch on both consoles output
[]Same position for the screen, stick & camera position.

Could the frames cause errors in inputs? I noticed a difference between the 2. On my PS3, when I press all 3 punches it registers PPP. On my 360 it registers PPP+FP. I’m using brand new TE round 2s with an Asus monitor. Maybe my Xbox stick is bad?
