Projected EVO 2009 game lineup?

I don’t play marvel

But taking the game off the evo list would be insane

also I’m wondering what will be the console of choice for HD Remix as well as Street Fighter 4. SC4 went to PS3, because of the joystick compatibility issue. But with the release of the SF4 sticks, I wonder how those games will go with the majors this year.

People usually prefer playing with their own sticks, so it’s a fair bet that PS3 will be played.

SC4… Really? :looney:
SFIV is in? Which console?

I’m in the camp of giving the “old” games the same treatment GG got a couple years back: 3v3 (or 2v2).

Games that should be run:
– SF4 (…you know why.)
– SC4 (New SC that ISN’T horrible or an X-fest, only thing that’s bad is the debate on character banning with Algol and Yoda.)
– TvC (New Capcom 2D game that doesn’t suck balls? Might kill Marvel off finally? SIGN UP! ONLY problem might be that Wiis need to be Japanese or modded.)
– HDR (ST is a staple and this game makes it SO much better. Let’s see what happens with Akuma, though.)

Games that should be considered:
– SSBB (All-Brawl or SWF-style Brawl. No “happy medium” as it doesn’t really seem to work, and let the non-Evo one get run in the BYOC if they want.)

Games that should be Team only (if at all)
– 3S (So damn boring to watch now 1v1, and that’s my favorite game I’m talking about!)
– GGXXAC (Late in that game’s life, but the scene is so die-hard about the game that they deserve AT LEAST a 2v2 or 3v3 main event.)
– MVC2 (Everything’s great about this game except for the GAME. Hype’s great, commentary’s great, drama’s great, but the game needs to be put to rest, especially with TVC out. Let it go out with a team tourney. Might see something INTERESTING for once.)
– CVS2 (Takes forever, game’s older than dirt. 2v2 or 3v3 would cut time down a lot and might allow more chance at seeing, say, things that aren’t A-Groove Sakura/Bison/Blanka or N-Groove Sagat/Blanka/Honda. Hell, Buktooth is the only thing worth watching anymore that doesn’t put me to sleep.)

I don’t find this to be TOO big of an Evo 2k9 lineup as-is. Yes, 9 games is a large amount, especially compared to some other Evo years, but the team tourneys will have smaller time and space investments and allow for a LOT more of a diverse final 8.

In addition, it’d be awesome to see some 5v5 USA vs Japan in the newer Capcom games. SF4, HDR, and TVC 5v5 events would be dope. Give each country a chance to set up what’s to come in later years in what will be some hopefully long-lasting games.

evo will be 6 games.

Oh rly? (durrr)

sf4, tekken, ssbb, sthd, tvc,and sc4? That my guess… but who knows.

9 games is way too much, no staff getting any sleep with that.

Getting rid of mvc2 would be a huge mistake.

Weren’t the #'s relatively low last year compare to the pas? Also mistake me if I am wrong but wasn’t SB3 the biggest Mvc2 tournament ever? Far exceeding EVO.

When MvC2 was in it’s prime, Evo got around 420 players

:wgrin: Sigh if only that can happen again.

i remember the tournament at ucla (evo 2002), we had 501. duc was number 501 because he wasnt there and i had to sign him up lol.

All I’m trying to say is that your going to end up pissing a lot of players off if they get rid of it.

I’m fairly sure that a lot of people who buy the Evo DVD’s buy it for mvc2 footage, but I could be wrong.

they sure weren’t buying the last ones for the tekken footage snore

Here’s my 2 cents on games that should/shouldn’t be included:

SF4 - Self explanatory

HD Remix - Self explanatory

T5 DR - Since T6 BR won’t be released until October 2009, I think we’ll be settling on T5 DR for now.

SSBB - SSBB is very different from the other games and I think Evo would like to get back on better terms with the SSBB community by removing items this year.

MvC2 - Out of the remaining capcom games (3S and CvS2), this one has the larger community. The game is also vastly different from SF4 and HD Remix so it allows for some variety.

Soul Calibur 4 - The only one I’m not sure about. Evo has included SC in the past, and SC4 was released in July 2008 which was too late for it to be used at Evo2k8. I think including it in this years lineup. It’s a different 3-D game from Tekken and I think it has a better following in America then VF5.

Games that didn’t make the cut:

TvC: TvC can only be played on Japanese or modded Wiis. Japanese Wiis are hard to come by, and I think using modded Wiis could potentially have some legal issues that Evo would like to avoid.

3S: I think the game is played out for now. SF4 is the official replacement for this game.

CvS2: In terms of the amount of tourney participants, CvS2 is lower then 3S and MvC2 which is why it was not included.

ST: HDR is the replacement.

KOF12: Game will be released in Japan April 2009. Not sure if that’s enough time. Also I don’t think the SNK games have a particularly large following in the USA.

Vf5: VF was included in the past with poor turnouts. I don’t think VF5 will be any better.

Concerning SFIV and SFHDR, which consoles will those be played on, if those would be decided that is.

unlesss someone magically comes along ans gives us 20 xbox 360s, it will be on ps3, since we own a great deal of them.

Do you know at this point if TvC is even a possibility? The limitations of needing Japanese or modded Wiis to run the game seems a bit difficult, despite the game being absolutely perfect for EVO. But if I’d like to know if TvC is even possible before I get my hopes up this year.

T5DR had less people than GGAC. Not sure if it would be a good idea to have it again.

Evo ran GGXXS/GGAC on Jpn PS2 in previous years and from what I know the reason it was possible was because there were GG players that volunteered to bring their Jpn PS2 + original copies of the game. If TvC players are willing to do the same then having TvC at Evo should be possible.

CvS2 had about the same number of paid entrants as ST (around 140 or so, more than T5DR & Smash).
For those people saying CvS2 should be dropped because it’s old: 3S & MvC2 are even older than CvS2, so if age is the issue 3S & MvC2 should be dropped as well.

April 09 is for arcade version, there’s no word on a console version yet, Evo is a console tournament, so no KOF12 at Evo2k9. The KOF game with better chance at making it into the official Evo lineup would be KOF98UM (it has been out since July for Jpn PS2, supposedely it will come in US in the next month or so) and even then it’s a very slim chance.

As I have stated before, CvS2 will not be returning to the Evo linueup.

so are we SOL if we all own 360s on the east coast? (i can only think of 2 people with PS3s in nj/ny) or will you guys have converters or something
