Project Royale X - New 'anime-style' 2D fighter Coming to Consoles & PC/MAC/Linux

loving the character designs

Don’t hate me. I want to provide constructive criticism as a fellow game designer.

-Overall presentation is a little cheeseball. The plot, some of the names (Project Royale X, Zero Tech, Daemon and Lucretia) etc. sound a bit immature like they were lifted from a middle school kid’s notebook on his ultimate dream RPG. I can’t tell if it’s trying too hard or if it’s just trying to be ironic, but if it is the latter, that should be made more obvious.

-The characters (other than Giselle) look a tad generic. I feel like they are tropes that I’ve seen before. Adam and Lucretia really need to be spiced up; Adam looks like a random tough guy from Double Dragon, and Lucretia’s hairstyle and outfit are just plain boring, they don’t fit the supervixen you make her out to be. More like an office lady in mourning.

-I’m not seeing the GG/BB inspiration here. It sounds a lot like Skullgirls or MvC2, which is great, but focus attacks? Wavedashing? Why? Forget focus attacks, they won’t be successful if you’re implementing such an accelerated neutral game. Instead, worry about giving us some real defensive options like IB/FD/Burst.

+Although I criticized the character designs, the artwork itself is ten thousand levels of godlike. Your artist is incredibly talented, so I have to ask, will they be working on the animation in-game as well? Will the animation be hand drawn like Skullgirls, or will it just be spritework?

+The genre you’re aiming for is definitely one that has a demand to be filled. Personally, as a MvC2 player, I’ve been fairly disappointed with MvC3 and Skullgirls, and there are others who feel the same. I’m still not sure exactly how you plan to succeed where those games have failed, but I hope that you do.

+Giselle is perfect. I want to main her. I want to marry her.

You can wavedash in Marvel and SG. But yeah I agree focus attacks problem wouldn’t be great for this. I also agree that Giselle is a far more interesting character than these other ones.

RIght, that’s why I said I don’t see the BB/GG influence.

Kinda wondering why Lucretia is the only one with abilities, as if those were in anyway more important than Vanessa’s titties.

The artstyle is interesting. It might actually draw in those who dismissed stuff like Skullgirls for being to “weaboo.”

Focus will have to work like Vipers focus in MvC3 (if you want it to work at all), otherwise it’s a pointless addition.

Generic, the artstyle, the generic mechanics while not putting a new spin on things or adding anything new.

nothing wrong with keeping what works. but the big boys already have that covered so you gotta bring something else to the table.- My friend that i agree with

Every good fighter has something about them that makes it its own.

KI has its Breaker System, Persona has Personas, Street Fighter 4 what makes it different from the others is Ultras,and Focus Attacks that add depth to the game.

You need something, Anything to make your game different from the others, otherwise it wont hold people for long

actually it would be nice to have a decent looking game that did not have fadc, or hd cancels, or ismz… But basic fundamentals

The art style isn’t really generic, just the character design. The art style is just the bad version of SNK artist Hiroaki.

Not everything needs to be innovative, doing an old concept awesomely can be just as good.

I’m eager to see more.

Looks very promising, I’m liking the character art as well. Good luck, and I can’t wait to demo it.

I take offense to that.

The “anime style” system with these KoF looking characters is jarring, I’m trying to picture the character models in action.

Hope they look more like the art and less like chibi’s wearing the same clothes.

Sidenote…would KOF13 be anime style if they had airdashes?

Depends on if you feel that anime = airdashing. The game would probably be similar to the way it plays now, the only major change would be air to air and being able to change your trajectory. Generally the lack of chains tends to make things not really feel “anime”.

Well I do feel that a part of an anime fighter’s system is the universal airdash as well as multiple movement options for each character. KoF already has burst comboes not a lot of long winded stuff so, I dunno. Just a thought.

The problem is that, at this point, we as a community are still having trouble nailing down what exactly is an “anime fighter.”
