I nabbed Buttero’s profile. As for the rest I’ve tried making the cardinals larger (my drops come from missing down during DP motions) or diagonals not registering for whatever reason. I’ve decreased the dead zone, made it larger, etc. nothing works.
What’s the best way to post up my current config? You’re talking to a guy that rarely if ever posts any files on the net.
Hey KnyghtFall, you really need to understand that what works for one person is not necessarily going to work for another. Sure, profiles are a good place to start but everyone plays differently. Even the bio-mechanics of how you move your move your fingers, wrist, arm and how you position the fight stick will effect your results.
I’ve said this time and time again but the absolute best way to fine tune a profile is to put the magenta into setup mode, load up your game and target character in practice mode and repeat your moves over and over while a second person adjusts the magenta settings in real time.
Start with big changes like +/- 5 on a direction and slowly dial it down until you are changing in units of +/- 1. As the settings are adjusted closer to your play style, you will be hitting your moves more often. If the adjuster is going the wrong way you will start missing combos. I could go on and on but I have done this countless times for both pros and near noobs and this is by far the best way to tune magenta to match the way YOU play.
Seriously, give this a try and tell me the magenta does not fit your technique more than one of the generic profiles!
Sometimes people need direction on profile setups beyond just plugging it in and trying it out. Having a more technical understanding of what’s going on definitely improves the setup experience, but if people are new and lack that understanding it will be more difficult. This is why I’m trying to get him to post his profile so I can see what he’s doing. He can then tweak based on my feedback.
Magenta went through years of tuning and adaptation to become tournament legal. This was neither a quick nor easy processes and one of the reasons the Magenta took so long to be released. What’s the point of having a customizable stick if it’s not tournament legal right?
Several pure analog prototypes of Magenta do exist and can be used on everything from a Nintendo Switch all the way back to an Atari Red Baron arcade game from 1980. The analog version is not tournament legal and, after shopping it around, saw limited interest from the fightstick community. Everything has a cost in either time or tooling and without a real commitment it’s just not worth chasing after a small market.
I wish the reddit guys success with their project and recommend you keep your expectations in check. They have a long way to go if accuracy is important and I can state from experience that a gate solution has a lot of challenges they will need to overcome.
I wish them success as well, but their end goal seems to be the ability to replace your product in the market or even take market share from your product. The fightstick community is not the only end user. Its just your captive audience right now.
Only reason I brought this up is because of several past products that have significant use and market share amongst collectors, arcade enthusiasts, and FGC that might benefit from something like this modification to your product.
Happ still sells the 49-way stick that is used on some of the most Iconic games in the arcade. The wico/happ perfect 360 is a grail for many arcade enthusiasts and FGC members. And I believe your product has the ability to ecplise these products if done right.
I would LOVE to get my hands on one of these pure analog Magentas to shop it to the smash community. You could literally carve out half of the market that the smash box has with it.
Tournament legality with the FGC is not your only part of this market man. Your missing much of the bigger picture. I understand this is your baby and I have no stake in your product besides word of mouth advertizing and putting product into friends/con-going hands. But I think your missing the forest for the trees.
Well, I cant go into all the details but if you want one of the analog magenta sticks you can contact Paradise and see what it will take. I can say with certainly that if someone were willing to place an order for > 1K pieces it should cover any tooling costs to get the ball rolling.
And what make you think I don’t have a 49 way compatible stick? Or analog buttons for that matter???
Since you wrote yourself there is no all in one solution I’d really like the help the guy get steered in the right direction considering I’ve been using the lever for some time now and I’ve placed pretty well in tournaments. I think I have a pretty good idea on how it works from a technical and player perspective and what someone might need on a personal level.
One issue with an all analog Magenta is what games beside Smash would use it and the number 1 problem is how would you get that analog information to the console? Only a small handful of third party PCBs actually have analog output (PS3/PS4 Fighting Board variations) and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of games in the competitive gaming circuits that would demand analog. The product would need to be somewhat simple to install so padhacks are out of the question which would entirely negate first party PCBs. None of the retro boards on the market offer true analog control and most of the modern console PCBs don’t, either. Our focus for Magenta’s release was which market is best to launch in, and analog to digital made the most sense.
Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t any and I’d definitely love to see what’s out there, but those are some of the factors that have gone into the initial decision to focus on analog to digital intially rather than having both on the same board. It’s still a hurdle that needs to be overcome today, and certainly something we’ve been looking into.
Great, I’ll be on the look out for it. When you post the profile you’re currently playing on let me know what game, character, and style you like or want to focus on as well.
