Hello everyone! First post on here and was looking to get some feedback. I recently picked up ultra in December. I play other fighting games so it’s not my first time around the block. I first chose Guy as my main but then wanted a more solid footsies based character. The character I play with now is Fei. Now here’s my problem. I got into this game waayyy too late. I really enjoy playing it but it is very frustrating trying to learn so many matchups. I have a friend that has been playing SF since the beginning but he’s a family man and its hard to get games in. I’m not here complaining about cheap shit or anything of the sort but I do have a problem with the majority of online players. I’m trying to learn this game and get better but whenever I play someone with more skill than me they only play two games and leave. Also If they play more than that I start to adapt a little bit and win some rounds and then eventually a game but when that happens they leave. I try sending messages that I’m new and would like to play more but the majority of the time I get no response. I am having a really hard time trying to learn this game and learn matchups. So, I guess my question is where do I have to go to play better people than me that are actually willing to help level someone up and not act as an elitist? Sorry for grammar errors or posting in the wrong place it’s just a quick post before I have to go back to class.
What country are you from? If you’re in the US or Europe, there’s loads of places where you can play offline and people will be more than willing to help you.
Also, players are likely to leave if you pose no challenge to them. Even if you win a game or two. I’d say watch over your replays and see what you did right, but most importantly, see what you did WRONG. Then go to training mode and figure out what you need to do to level up. Whether it’s footsies, anti airing, combos, throw tech timing and character specific tech. IE, using Fei’s focus attack/Ultra/Super/flip kick to go through fireballs.
Cosmonaut, try to use ranked->custom search and continue to challenge the same guys once, you find someone you have a good fight. After two or three good fights against this person, befriend them, create endless matches and play as long as you guys can.
Ranked IS THE PLACE to find people that are going to be good sparring partners on enldess. Go ranked, custom, challenge different people until you find someone you want to fight again and again, challenge then continuously, befriend and invite to endless. This is how i find people to play online.
I generally think that a good fight is where you both are able to make hard to one another to win. Even if you lose to someone that is not that good, if they wins against you, this is someone that can teach what you are doing wrong. Many strong people don`t mind being challenged again and again, others you can challenge three or four times in a row and ocasionally play endless.
All of this is for finding people. For matchups, it`s not something that necessarily would be in you post, but for really basic matchup knowledge, I would advise for the CPU on the hardest level. Being able to play safe, without losing a lot of HP and know how you can pressure safely ( blocking, whiff punishing, hit confirming to combos, counter poking, meaty-combo-punishing … ) and effectively in the hardest on arcade mode and “player vs cpu modes”, are really good for basic matchup knowledge.
Im new to the forum, but I
ve read somewhere that post that there is a session here where you can find offline partners to play, what is awesome.
As for footsies, I find not jumping, blocking and the the sonic hurricane footsies handbook all essentials.
Thanks for the advise guys. I live in Gainesville, GA. about 45 minutes from ATL. I went to a local this past Sunday and found some players to play with. A guy from Final Round that I had met invited me. I’ll take in both of your guys’ advise.
Hey man I live in Doraville GA. Where’s this local at in ATL?
It was in Morrow GA. so quite a trip but I think it’s every two weeks. PM me your number or something and i’ll give you some more info.
Adding friends online is where it’s at for match up experience, if they are proficient with the character. You can add me on psn and xbl jeffhizzle254, Im deployed so I cant play til July. If you near ATL hit up Shin Blanka, he knows what’s on and poppin down there and is a cool guy.
