I recently started getting into street fighter, particularly 4, a while back I got a fight stick and I main’d boxer, initially this was easy enough for me because he was a charge character, but whenever I was playing not-a-charge-character I found that it was impossible to do moves comfortably when I was on the left side of the screen.
Now I have started messing around with Dudley, and needless to say, the problem has come back to haunt me. I can fight perfectly fine and execute everything when im on the right side of the screen, but when im on the left side, i get so frustrated because the way I hold the stick doesn’t feel right and it makes it extremely awkward.
I have tried holding it differently in all positions, trust me, but I really have just about tried everything. This frustrates me more and more just to know that I cant fight correctly when im facing a different side.
Has anybody else had this problem when they switched over? Or does anybody have any helpful advice. You have no idea how frustrating it is to me when I lose on a count of I cant combo into my ultra because im on the wrong side.
Thanks in advance.
Then you must make it a point in the match to always be on the left side until you get used to it. You don’t learn to dribble a basket ball with your left hand by keeping it in your right.
training mode, its there for a reason
It just takes time and practice. Eventually, it won’t matter which side of the screen you’re on because the motions will become natural.
thanks, guess Ill just sit in training mode for a while then.
You’re always going to have a weaker side. Not everyone will agree with me, but I find it true amongst me and my friends.
Think of it like switch hitters in baseball, they’ve got a side they prefer (even though a lot of it has to do with who’s pitching).
Practice will definitely help and after time you’ll feel more comfortable with your weaker side. If you have people you can play with locally that are similar or better in skill that’ll help a ton.
A bit off topic advice
Stick to whatever you’re using (parts wise). Don’t go switching around parts like joysticks, gates, springs etc. It’ll only confuse you initially.
Do that latter if you want.
Gootecks (pro gamer) was interviewed about the TEs when they were brand new. He wasn’t sure if it was using full Sanwa parts or not.
A lot of us in Tech Talk lol’d. Truth is why should he care, he’d still own on whatever he was using. Skill is skill.
I had the same problem when i first started out on my TE. One thing I did was practice the trials on both sides of the screen. It took a while but eventually i got used to it. Just stick with it. Practice for like an hour and then take a break. If you start getting frustrated take a second to calm down and go back to it.
im gonna have to agree with kubebot. everyone has a weak side, if they want to admit it or not. for me its my right, guessing since im blind in that eye…
just practice till you feel comfortable. then try playing against real players and see how you do. i feel the better player you play against the better youll become. it also helps to go to a gathering and see if anyone would be willing to spend a little time to give you hands on advice.
