Just wondering… what will pro gamers do when they get older? I know Daigo is working and has a family now, so its understandable he’s not as active in the scene as he used to be. But what about people like Gootecks and other top players who basically devote 100% of their time to SF? Will winning tournaments be enough to provide for their families once they establish one? Its a fun short term “job”, but you need to be practical and think about the future.
This is my theory.
There is not enough money to have a comfortable lifestyle by being a pro gamer UNLESS you are sponsored or market yourself (Falality or whatever, has his own brand of network cards, sponsors, etc)
If you do it as a side job (which is what most people do it looks like (at least in street fighter)) then it’s fine.
when did Daigo has a family? any kid?
Thank god for my awesome intelligence and 3 scholarships. $3,000+ left over every quarter I can do whatever the fuck i want with.

With that being said, I still see no reason to become a professional gamer.
I made a few bucks back in the day in CS. Just doing clan vs clan money matches. Nothing cooler than winning a match at 16yrs old and getting a few bucks to pad the old wallet.
They just need to spend a weekend at AI and they’ll know how it’s done.
On a side note I thought pro came with being a well rounded player and being respected in the community.
All I know is he’s married now.
Yeah, that’s what I think. Its all about people recognizing your talent. Money doesn’t really matter much IMO.
Just watched this. Was pretty good. Thanks for suggesting it++
I always thought the concept of ‘pro gaming’ is a joke.
But hey, if you got a real life with a real job and still manage to cash in from big tourneys once in a while - then respect to you. If you’re some basement-dwelling idiot that seriously idolizes about playing games for a living - then no respect to you.
Fixed "
I think he has two, This is why he pretty much took a break fighting games a few years ago.
Maternity leave.
Being a “pro gamer” is one of the worst way to make a living, and in 99.9999% of the case, get you nowhere. Seriously, there will be no professional video gamer, sticking to that job til’ they’re 65.
