Sorry if this doesn’t go here. I’ve been using Akuma for about a month and have been trying to use plinking in order to do some of his harder combos. It got me thinking and my question is do you need to plink with all characters in order to get most of their combos out, or is it just certain characters with short framed animations?
Technically you don’t need to plink at all, it just helps. That being said, some characters have naturally easier link combos and therefore easier plinking ability than others.
Some characters have so much advantage on hit that you can take your time and still get the links out easily. If you’re really wanting to learn plinking I suggest starting with them. The big thing is to watch your inputs to make sure it actually** is** plinking, something like:

and not just

The reason for plinking is that it gives you a second chance to hit a link that has a tight frame window. No one needs to plink any specific link with any character, it just helps a lot of people with consistency. It just so happens that for certain characters plinking will make tight links (particularly 1 frame links) easier to hit.
no you don’t need to plink everything. if you can time a combo well enough w/o plinking, don’t use it because it’ll just unnecessarily add to the complexity of execution (something that i don’t see mentioned very often). but for those 1 frame links where it’s extremely difficulty to just get down, you should plink for sure.
