Akatsuki BK has some of the best sprites for a game out right now.
ST:HD or KOF12 are looking better tho.

Street Fighter 3
Hokuto no Ken
Street Fighter Alpha (ya rly)
Guilty Gear XX
Samurai Showdown 5 (it’s still okay sorta)
Akatsuki Blitzkampf is a fine looking game (if a little… cube-y?) but its sprites are nowhere near the “best”
Super Turbo - the color and art is just nice. Look at the sunset of Dee Jay’s background, atleast on every version except Genesis lol.
NG or 2I also overall look good. 3S, the backgrounds are all stiff and shit, shit looks painted.
Arcana looks good because even hooked up to HD it doesnt smear up, or get pixelized. But some animations are lacking.
3s looks and animates really well but the character design is terrible and a lot of the backgrounds are boring. AH is another one with bad character design and very dull backgrounds.
CVS2 is the best at the moment, though CVS1 had some better backgrounds.
Waku Waku 7
or SF Alpha 2/3
real 2d fighter sprites, rich, cartoony, artistic, sex
Akatsuki Blitzkampf
Blazblue
Third Strike
Fuck NG. It’s SI. Alpha 2 is a close second.
Second Impact’s character select screen and lack of Sean’s OG stage make me prefer New Generation.
So on that note, I’d go with:
[]Street Fighter III: New Generation
[]Garou: Mark of the Wolves
[]Hokuto no Ken
[]Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core
BlazBlue and KoF XII both look gorgeous from screenshots, but I’d need to see both of them in person to truly be blown away.
I’ve never played it myself, but Chaos Breaker seems to have some sweet graphics and animation.
I actually spent the last 2 years trying to figure out what this game was called. I was just about to start a desperation thread when I finally typed the lucky words on google…
In terms of games that I have played…
SFIII, 3rd Strike
Last Blade 2
SF alpha 2
GG series
GMOTW
Martial Masters (for being a relatively non-popular title, I liked the style and gameplay)
As for games I haven’t played or aren’t out yet (but want to )…
KOF12
Hokuto no Ken
SFII HD
Blazblue
3S lacks distracting movement.
That game looked nice, but was grainy and had that distracting zoom feature…
S H O’ N U F F!!!
WW7 is purdy. One of my faves.
Eternal Champions was always visually appealing to me.
