The King of Fighters XII…
currently: Guilty Gear
coming soon: the trailer to BlazBlue looks fucking GORGEOUS. sure the design itself is generic “i wish i were guilty gear” fare, but DAMN those backgrounds and higher than GG hi-res sprites are just jaw dropping.
I agree with that.
KOFXII Is close in the running though
Just a “bonus” for this thread, but Waku Waku 7 was fucking impressive in the year that was released (1996).
Last Blade 2, Garou is a very close 2nd.
Garou: Mark Of the Wolves
SF2HD. Gorgeous, nothing compares.
Guilty Gear son!
BlazBlue is probably going to be the new king of amazing looking graphics on a 2D fighter.
It all depends on what you like. Visual aesthetics, as art, are a very subjective thing.
If you ask me, ST’s parallax scrolling is still the coolest thing in the world. :wgrin:
Hokuto No Ken is an interesting achievement to me because it looks exactly the way they intended. See this very smart post from another thread:
The SF3’s have incredible framerates. That animation is sooo butter-smooth. I thiiiink I prefer 2I’s ideas to 3S, though, and it bothers me that it feels like they took a step backward in the artistic department.
GGXX looks absolutely stunning on a bigscreen HDTV, and probably holds up better than anything else right now when displayed like that. The higher-res really does start to pay off in that sort of video format. It also benefits from inspired design and direction.
My personal grievance with it, however–though I am complete novice to the game–is that it can be difficult to keep track of what’s going on while you’re playing it; the picture feels too busy and there is little done to make important things stand out from unimportant things. To me this warrants demerits from a functional, practical standpoint. I couldn’t follow MvC2 either when I first started watching, but my brain/eyes eventually learned to catch up and pick out the important elements on their own… I’ll have to wait and see with GGXX.
It’s been really cool checking out videos of the less well-known games that others have been mentioning. Warzard and some of those SNK titles are actually pretty rock-on nice.
I’m looking forward to seeing a completed SFHD and KOF12 in motion.
Is it just me or does Sengoku BASARA X look kind of boring?!!
What little I’ve seen of BlazBlue looks breathtaking, although the backgrounds incorporate 3D, which would technically disqualify it in here.
Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, and Street Fighter 3 (any version).
SF2HD is looking amazing but looks a little funny in spots considering it is HiDef sprites with the same animations of SF2.
Guilty Gear XX has really nice looking sprites, but there are just somethings in the visuals (I think the effects) that I’m not a big fan of.
kof
3s
cvs2 haha sorry sorry…
The new KOF looks pretty nice, I my opinion.
Probably go with that and 3s. I think Alpha 3 looks pretty decent too…
sf3,a y of the 3.
motw
SS3
LB1 & 2
warzard
KOFXII.
yall need 2 play dat Tuff E Nuff great animation for its time…seriously
for me, its last blade 2 but only 75% of the entire cast look good. i think they spent more time only developing the main (top tier) characters. just compare Moriya to shingen. i was hoping that Sengoku BASARA X woud look a lot like LB… oh well.
its a combination of the character designs and frame rate for me. i couldnt care less about hd.
ggxx and HnK look too choppy imo.
Pocket Fighter. Or, on a more realistic note, KOFXII…
KOF12 looks to be the best looking 2D fighter ever, I would have said the samething with SF2HD but with the graphical nerfs it doesn’t look good anymore.
I’ve always thought ST is the prettiest (no other game w/ colors like that), then 3S.
