Prettiest 2D fighter?

I really, really, really wish they were remaking some other game besides II. I mean, they’re redoing all the graphics from the ground up, why would they keep the archaic system? Why not remake Alpha 3 with it’s awesome characters or 3S for it’s balanced system?

Really stupid. Plus, they’re remaking a game that was already released on the 360 arcade. Capcom is retarded.

i’m gonna have to go marvel because it’s the only game i know where my friends who don’t play will watch a couple matches just because of flashy combos plus supers plus so much shit on the fucking screen.

in my opinion SF3 is a work of ark. NG was great and had better bakgrounds as opposed to 3s though.

Yeah, I have. And I liked them a lot too. I just liked Z3 designs more.

Even though the animation isn’t top tier, you gotta give GG credit for using hi-res sprites before anyone.

Don’t put GG on so high a pedestal. The only thing good about GG sprites are their contours. Without a heap of shadowy detailed layers and mixed hues, high-res doesn’t mean jack.

I can’t decide between 2I and 3S. Animation was improved in 3S (quite apparently too with some characters!), but everything else was better in 2I

Last Blade 2 also looks extremely good overall.

alpha 2 had the best backgrounds… gen’s stage was tight, akuma’s stage was tight, the grassy field was the SHIT!

as for the other games… wtf? BBB? Garou?
yeah, ok, the animation is sick and all, but seriously? pixellated sprites? gtfo! what’s next? Melty Blood?

for the most part the backgrounds are fucking sick as well.

I’d say:
Arcana Hearts
Samurai Shodown:Tenka
SF3:Third Strike
Guilty Gear:Accent Core

If they aren’t moving Guilty Gear looks the best (maybe HNK is close). The effects they added for accent core really make it look gorgeous, but the sprites still don’t have enough frames.
I also remember Spectral VS Generation looking great in pictures but looking like ass when it was actually being played.

SF3 has the most frames of animation per character, there’s no doubt, but I feel the characters don’t play on that fact at all. The movements are not elaborate enough to be asking for such good animation. If you say “here are two character’s from different games, which one looks better moving?” then SF3 will be the answer. A game with characters that would take more advantage of the animation system would blow SF3 away I think. Darkstalkers characters + SF3 graphics system would be crazy gorgeous.

Doujin fighters naturally have a hard time with this, because sprite assets are crazy hard to make and very time consuming. The time coding a fighting game pales in comparison to the amount of time it takes to make the assets. Some look much better (Biltzkampf is great). I was told that monster looks great in motion, but I never saw it. The pictures I saw of it didn’t look very good.
