Good shiet cookies. Do you have all colors/taunts on SF4?

I have most of them. I can unlock some more when I get off of work. I do have all alts/characters.

Ya know? I’d like to learn marvel. I take it DC is still the prefered system?

seconded. I just remember walking around Vegas, body humming like a radiator…spending hella money on anything and forgetting my players card in a slot machine.

And shit. I was planning on secretly learning marvel this preppy’s…you all be stealin mah steam. Amateur tourny would be funny as hell.

Oh shit, I’m eligible? Haha, let’s do it.
As captain, you can even pick the team’s name.
I should be finished with the UW on… Monday.

Though I may postpone graduation if I can think of some way to work the system.

No Grant, you aren’t eligible. You are > noob status. Let’s just say, if you could steamroll most of the brand new players interested in playing tonight, you’re ineligible. But that doesn’t mean some of us vets can’t still give you pointers! =P

Edit: Keith, you’re also ineligible. Josh, I think you’re eligible. Even though you have a team, you don’t ever play, so you should be okay. =}

The last time I played Marvel it was against Zach on his cabinet.

My team was Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Bone Wolverine.

:frowning:

90% of this game is stepping up to the cabinet, the other half is taking the ass whooping like a man.

EDIT: I’m eligible. I meant draft eligible as in I don’t play the game but I guess that actually makes me eligible.

I would win the n00b tournament. I’m not even joking, I would.

I think I had a…dhalsim, akuma, dr. doom team.

Nasty.

Yeah, I know I’m not eligible. I guess I should be happy about it, really. Even if it disqualifies me from the only competition I could ever win. This is where comparisons to the special olympics would be made, but I don’t want to go there, because I don’t want to discourage anybody from trying out Marvel. It’s never too late. Marvel is going anywhere.

Come to mention it, I think I remember hearing James Watson 101 say something about wanting to use Ryu in Marvel? :frowning:
I might have to reconsider my pick.

I tend to pick Cable/Sent/Cyclops. If someone can teach me how to mash out great wins I will play in your noobs tourny. If someone doesn’t ill probably play anyway. My mashing is even sub-par, I don’t expect to make it past first or second round.

I want to learn Jugg and Doom actually :o

Give me a call/text by like 11:30 if you still need something, I forgot the cookies at home so I have to go grab them anyway but I am not going to plan on packing my stuff up and lugging it over unless we need it. I have a 360 VGA cable if you need it but I think your monitor has HDMI anyway.

Bring an HDMI cable. I’m sure they won’t bust open your car for that.

Heh, I’m already at work but I’ll grab one when I am at home if you need one.

How much percentage is time that needs to be spent playing?

Anyways I’m down for a noob tourney, I was decent at Marvel 1 but when I got 2 many years ago, I just wasn’t able to do the combos i read on gamefaqs on the controller so I just enjoyed the occasional arcade mode. I did play enough to unlock everything so I do understand the system a bit.

iono if josh would be eligible…I mean he DID win a match down at EVO…unlike me.

amature’s that come to mind are:

Dugg, Ghrrk, Riki, Jared, Jodo, Tepid, Elliott, JamesWalton, Bokkin, Rickclops, Hyre, Pat, maybe Dustin.

People who know Marvel a lot better than me are going to step in and smack me down, or Preppy is going to (justifiably) ask that my drivel be placed somewhere more appropriate (the garbage). But briefly:

The amount of time you need to spend playing Marvel before you could compete in a noob tournament depends heavily on the team you’re using, and obviously the amount of time that your opponents spend.

You want to at least be able to bring to the table your character’s most basic, broken-ass bullshit. For Cable, this means you want to be able to do AHVBs, preferably sj. canceled from HK. For Sentinel, you want to be able to do his HSF loop, and HP->fly back frying pan. Doom, Blackheart - learn how to spam air projectiles without getting shot. Etc., etc. Identify their particular brand of bullshit that can shut people down, easy mode, and learn it. Number two priority would probably be to concentrate on problem matches and what you can do about them. What your tools are for dealing with Runaway Storm, Doom assist, Blackheart, etc.

I think a novice Marvel tournament/league has a lot of promise, and I really like the idea of making it a ‘draft’ to enlist the help of veteran Marvel players. It makes me think of the NW fighting game scene at its best, as a community. I also think that beginner matches have the potential to be really exciting in a way that’s different from the veteran ones. I find myself asking which ways it might resemble the early Marvel scene (Cable dominates? Runaway rather than rushdown? Old-skool traps?), and how it might be different (Would Doom and Ice Man be obsolete from the start? What about Blackheart?).

I’d love to see these happen. If there were enough players - and there might not be - I am imagining some system where players, after winning a certain number of times, or winning and after a vote by the ‘mentor council’ or something, would officially be promoted from the rookie league. I could make a certificate, and we could get signatures from official notaries - Their official Mentor, Preppy, and maybe one of the NW’s attending Marvel Superstars… It might not happen like that, I don’t know if mentoring would work out perfectly, or whatever. But it just sounds like it could be so much fun.

EDIT: Fuck, he won a match at EVO? Here I’m typing out basic-ass shit like “Cable can do a super in the air!” and embarrassing myself. God damn it.

On the one hand, I can see how maybe anybody who decided to play at EVO might already be > noob status, but if anything I’d love to see the league be inclusive. It gives the very beginners something to aim for, and it gives people who want to learn another great excuse to practice up and have some fun. If he’s really good, he’ll graduate after a tournament or two, and that’s fine, too.

lol i smashed that nigga with his MAS at evo hahaha

but i cant even lie, i know a lot about the game that would classify me as not an amateur. i did play the game back in 99-2003 even casually. deezo said at one point i had the best strider in seattle =)
