Prefer poignant pretty pictures, or powerful picosecond ping?

For these eight video game systems you got a choice to make. PS2, Xbox, Prime, GameCube, Xbox 360,PS3, Wii, and Wii U.

If you decide to stream on Twitch or mixer,. What is more important to you being able to get high picture quality on your broadcast are being able to play it well?

They’ll probably depend on what your stream is intending to do. If you’re televising your own qualifying rounds in an online video game tournament, then you probably want the CRT therefore need a 480i compatible signal. If you’re trying to show off for the game as art or show the story and you’re confident that a one to 2frame ping time will not ruin performance then you go with the 1080p HDMI signal.

all the systems can use either a 480i signal and be compatible with most common CRT TVs or can be up to higher levels like 480p, 720p, or 1080i with component inputs, or 1080p with HDMI.

Ideally you are both but one problem is that converting from one resolution to another take significant enough lag that’ll affect the game. Plus if you want the lowest lag, you should start with a 480i source and upconvert.

Then there’s issues of quality of upconversion and sync between the action In both video and audio as well as your speech and camer being in sync with each other, and the game synching with the commentary/ joystick actions, if visible.

First I want to hear what you do in your own situation. And then consider it for my situation.

I struggle to get to megabits outbound on my cell phone. My home base internet is even worse maxing at 400k. If I’m going to play online I need all the phone outbound signal so the 400a could act as a serviceable online opponent. Since I’m not sure if I could do video at 480 I let alone be greater than, resolution is no point so I optimize the lag by using a CRT TV and using 480i mode for Street Fighter 4 on Xbox 360.

I know most people have significant internet to wear this is not an issue. trust me, if that weren’t the case, my website 56ok.org would be more popular. I know of no other website like it.

So far other people the choice is not as obvious as my choice. Just wondering what you think.

By the way the only time I use the word ping instead of the word lang was in the title, because of the alliteration of all the starting P letters. Hope you can forgive me in this case.

And I’m not sure if Pico is the next metric prefix below micro. It might be Nano instead of Pico. So hopefully you could mathematically forgive that too, in favor of a cool subject title.

Do you know your actual Upload and download bandwith?
If not check out https://www.speedtest.net/

And honestly if your home internet is worst than your mobile, and your mobile is struggling to get to the mbps range, then You are shit out of luck. Killabits isn’t cutting it to be honest. 400 Kbps is honestly dismal. Also Mobile is never a ideal for streaming as its highly prone to interference and performance lost on the bandwidth stream.

Ping only counts for so much without the accompanying bandwidth. And if you aren’t getting a minimum of 25 Mbps then count both streaming and online play individually off the table, so forget doing both at the same time.

Here is the recommended speeds for Youtube watching.

As for Twitch and other sites, you are looking at 1.6 Mbps for a resolution of 854 x 480 at 30 fps plus you want to add an additional 30% for buffer space as there always fluctuations in a bitstream.
And for Twitch if you are not aiming for a 720p @30 fps you are kinda wasting your time. And at 720p at 30 fps were looking at 3.6 Mbps minimum.

And I don’t know where you are getting you info, but it is all wrong. No one steams in interlace. And since 144p is on the table for YT, I don’t know where you getting your statistics from. CRTs are no longer a factor nor used for anyone online. For a few game steams people may use a splitter to view their own game on a CRT for classic/Retro systems while streaming at a minimum of 480p. More often if a CRT is used its for a Light Gun game with the video upload going to a upscaler before capture.

First if all my HOME bandwidth is 1.5 Mb/s in, 400kb/s.

I also have a separate phone bandwitdh of anywhere from 10-80 Mb/s in 2-20 Mb/s.

2 things are unfortunate about my phone:

  1. I can’t use cellular data for non-cellular stuff. So i can’t use it for gaming bandwidth I might be able to briadcast 2 Mb/s out using android third party twitch apps.

  2. My cell company comfirmed my data is down from one tower. Plus i have to be able to see ifbi get 2 Mb/s out plus downsteairs with no windows.

Currently. I was going to live side-by-sude competitions (indirect) unless the opponent says its 56ok. ( Wotks with less than minimal)

Since I’m doing indirect, probably CRT is best.

Still dont get where you getting this for streaming?

I swear, on a Whammy flash game. I got Larson like scores on a 2003 iMac, with a built in CRT monitor., With Dial up. ( Of course, i had to wait 15 minutes instead of 3 seconds when compared to 500k in 200 out, then later 1.5M in 400k out)

But with faster speeds, I can not play my optimal game on Whammy. The reason is the flat monitor.

When Michsel Larson got his score, he knew 4 out of the 6 patterns.

Whammy proudly claimed on the Larson Game reunion episode that the board was COMPLETELY random.

I can get Larson like scores by staring at 3k*/4k*/5k* (where * is plus a spin) square and stopped it as soon as i see it.

I might not aleayd get such scores. Because the game has a 20 ir 30 second shot clock tine limt, so at around 5 seconds to go, i look for a safe situation with few or no whammies showing and hope for the best plus I forget the extra spin.

On a flat monitor, I’m consistently late. And because there is no pattern, the CRT is the only foolproof way to win.

That’s I’m a big believer in CRT TVs

By the way, what is the lag time of a 2008 iMac monitor and a 2013 iMsc monitot? Are they considered gaming monitors, or normal lag monitors?

Would a 1 ms grey-to-grey monitor work with Whammy and give me Larson like scores? I usually win Whammy vs bots even wuth flat screens, but just not with phenomenal scores without a CRT.
