i recognize sanford 100% being a better player than anyone that posts in this section overall in SSF4 but he clearly doesn’t use sakura correctly. You can tell he taught himself. He’s a brilliant guy, but if he was to take full advantage of the correct combos and moveset he would have only done better.
I agree with you Blue, but that just proves Sakura is a decently tiered character. He has his own style of Sakura which means that she can be used in a variety of ways. I wouldn’t say he wasn’t taking full advantage of his combos but he’s not a Sakura player so he has a different point of reference.

sakura mid tier at best, still has issues against a good turtle with keep away.
Ugh turtles are a bitch to face. Guile’s are so annoying. I can beat them every now and then, but I get impatient at times and decide to just walk in and take the chip from sonic booms.
Sakura doesn’t have problems with turtles, she’s got many safe ways to chip them, she’s also got good anti-tech/crouch tech options.
The thing she does have problems with is characters with a strong fireball game, because none of her anti-fireball options are consistent.
Jumping requires guessing and is pretty punishable.
EX Otoshi requires guessing and costs meter.
EX Sho doesn’t require guessing, but will stop comboing and get blocked depending on what range you do it on.
HK/MK tatsu doesn’t require guessing, but it’s really difficult to react fast enough to the fireball at the range it needs to be done.
Aside from those options she’s got focus dash and st.rh to stuff fireballs.
So as you can see she’s got lots of options against fireballs, but nothing that doesn’t have a bigger fail-rate than it should to be consistent.
Atleast with the addition of st.rh she doesn’t get raped for free as soon as someone has a counterpoke to c.mk.

Yes, I’m noticing this more and more now that I’m playing decent Guiles and Dhalsims online.
Sanford is still very good with his Sakura, and normally, when you see him play ALMOST any character, he does it his way (Sagat being the exception, since…well…he’s stupidly linear?). So I was used to seeing him do things his own way.
Sanford’s Sagat is actually very recognizable. He’s more aggressive than most Sagat and relies less on tiger shots traps. His Sagat reminds me abit of Ojisanboy, except Ojisanboy is GODLIKE.
What are you using for chip? Hk? Fireball? I don’t hk because it puts you next to them at -2 with like 15 points of chip, not a good tradeoff imho. Fireball comes out too slow to do chip, most people can focus backdash and be fine. You do get to push them back a bit, but it doesn’t really work like ryu where he can force you to block or throw out and EX fireball. I found inability to chip one of my biggest issues.

sanford like I said man, you are def better than us at the game as a whole but you use s.mk way too much in your links, you’re wasting stun by not using s.HP and C.hP in your links after lk tatsus (had only watched you playing in tourney when writing this, not the MMs). also you were using j.lk after EX tatsu when you can use .j.HK for more stun/damage as well as the same ambigious 50/50 after.
Oh and yourichi is still godlike man, come back to IRC i haven’t seen you on in a minute!
edit: only watched the live footage just going back and watching the MM stuff, i’m sure if you mained her and learned all the BS matchup specifc shit ( shit straight whiffing on some chars ), you’d prolly be best sak in america free… good shit on playin her man -
your very good, i think your longest combo is fine hp doesn’t do much more stun so useing s.hp after mk makes the whole link combo alot more reliable, which is imho to be prefered.
But you sometimes go for flashy combos too much, i.e. finishing your long combo with U2 after an Shou which hits only with 1-2 hits any way.
your lk resets seemed to work fine, but i don’t know why those guys didn’t DP you out of it, that is her mixup killer.

Using s.MK xx LK Shunpuu allows an extra loop methinks, though the difference between 2 and 3 loops is probably quite small after all the scaling :looney:
