@NYN: These are more sketches than finished pieces. They don’t take me too long, but I have schoolwork so I usually only have time for one a day. (Animation student. x_x)
I’m not much of a fan of the blending with whatever medium your using. I think if you cross hatch instead of making it smooth and blurry, then the style you’re going for will be more consistent. I’m a realist/painterly type of artists so that’s why i’m being picky here. I like the anime style somewhat. You could try to experiment and make it more stylized and realistic. Maybe give it a unique anime style. Also try not to make it so flat, even if they are cartoons. indicate volume using a line could be very significant and pull viewers into the figure.
Tingleman is easily the best of the lot. Comparing it to your other artwork, it seems to have been drawn by someone else entirely. I understand the need for stylization but many of your figures seem disproportionate. I would point to Snake as one that stands out the most to me. His feet are nearly as wide as his waist. Making it look like his upper body is much further back in perspective than it should be. In some instances the large feet work; I like the guy with the high kick (K’…?). It makes more sense to give his feet more ‘impact’.
The dashing Kyo makes it look like he is about to topple over, I think that curving his upper body back towards his feet would restore balance to the pose and give it that cool hip check action; in turn adding some power behind that punch. The guy with the giant ninja star has a bit of a problem with his legs. The upper body looks great; but his legs don’t seem to be giving him any support. I don’t see these problems in Tizoc, he seems to be well proportioned and much more meaty than previous drawings. Tingleman has it all though; instantly recognizable, pose and proportions are extremely solid and even the facial expression is spot on. More like that one and you’re on your way.
Thanks for the tips Bigboss - trying to screw with proportions a bit, though I do agree with you that Rock Howard could use a bit more curves and Solid Snake’s legs got a bit bigger than I intended. ^^;;
