I call bullshit on this whole PS3-XBox thing. First of all, I’ve played pretty extensively on both consoles, switching back and forth between them sometimes during sessions. There is no way that there is a 3-frame latency discrepency between the two - that would be completely game-breaking, and have ramifications much more severe than just dropping combos - punishing whiffed pokes would be almost impossible, and anti-airing effectively would be made a lot more difficult. There may be a frame of lag, but if there is: stop bitching.
Honestly, I’m a fucking Scrub 'Rog from Toronto, and on 360 OR PS3, I can execute my exDU loops, s.jab,c.rh links, and whatever else with 90% accuracy on either console. I own neither (I play on PC), so I don’t have any native preference or slant.
Furthermore, there are a number of top players who can execute with nigh-100% accuracy on either console. I’ve never heard Justin Wong blaming his losses on the console. There’s a reason for that: he’s too busy winning to bitch about losing.
Until it is definitively proven (and if it has been, please show me where and I’ll happily eat my words) that one console is “laggier” than the other, PLEASE: sit down, shut the fuck up, and stop blaming your shitty execution on the fucking console.
I mean no offense to anyone in particulary, but this trend has become increasingly nerve-grinding for me.
Any lag difference is TV based, not console based. There’s a YouTube comparison somewhere.
What PR Rog probably felt was a different latency on the TV to any he was accustomed to.
where the FUCKS does it say you have to stick to one character? capcom doesnt enforce this rule or even design their game to work that way. get out of here with your house-rule bullshit. its the same kind of mentality as “no spamming special moves!”
money match was great, character switching included, probably one of the highlights of finals day for me.
oh and btw, kai is also a ps3 player, so if PR rog was at a disadvantage (if one exists) then so was kai. not to take away from either player, they are both amazing at their respective characters.
Perhaps he borrowed an arcade stick that had input lag? shrug
But anyway I’ve read somewhere that there are a few inconsistencies between the two versions. For example, a lot of X360 Blanka players at EVO '09 were complaining about not being able to hop into ultra on the PS3 because the timing was slightly different.
over the weekend i heard alot of people complain about it being on xbox as opposed to ps3 because they were primarily used to the ps3 speed. Literally, 1 frame links are PR Rogs bread and butters. It’s just how he plays. The slightest timing change can fuck someone like that up for sure. I’m glad some of you have better execution that PR Balrog and can do 1 frame links 90% of the time, I know I can’t do that, but that isn’t the point. The point is he felt that there was enough of a difference in the two versions to throw off his ability to play correctly.
Just curious, what monitors were used at Warzone? Also, its been shown in the HDTV lag forumthat there is in fact a one frame difference between the Xbox and PS3. Even on a crt. Some monitors can make this 1 frame even worse due to bad scalers. Just saying.
With all due respect, maybe PR Balrog should have used less tighter links if he were having that much difficulties?
uh no none of us here have better execution then he does… that’s not the issue. but when wong and combofiend are in the top 5 and they are using characters that live and die by 1 frame links… also considering that combofiend is vocal in this SRK board I’m sure we would have seen something. I really think people are making things up. And no, this is not HDTV lag, if it was it would be 1-3 ms. there is no way any good player would play on 1-3 frames. it’s impossible.
i’ve talked to a lot of ps3/xbox players they do not see a difference. again i’d like to see hard data on this with the xbox vs ps3.
I hope people dont make this out to be a system war. It would be beneficial to those who are sensitive to lag to know what they will be experiencing if there is a difference between the systems. I wish Shinsho still posted and finished his testing.
they used the asus monitors! i agree he should have made adjustments the moment he figured out he was having execution issues. maybe he tried to and it didn’t work out, i didn’t really watch his matches too often.
someone said they get 1 frame links 90% of the time. i was just joking around with that
Since foxisquick brought up Jwong, here is what he has to say on the subject:
“There is input lag timing between the 2. I personally play on xbox and the fact that PS3 lags alot affects my gameplay a bit. I miss combos I usually never miss but you?ll adjust to it sooner or later.”
Just for clarification, I’m not claiming to be able to do all one-frame links 90% of the time, I’m claiming to be able to do s.jab, c.rh and exDU, c.jab 90% of the time - I can’t reliably do any of his other difficult links, and in quick retrospect, 90% might by hyperbole. I don’t frequently miss them, though - but that’s not the point. The point is that, even if their is differing input latency between various consoles or set-ups, the best players will adjust accordingly. I love PR Rog, he’s an amazing player, and he’s a lot of fun to watch, but blaming the hardware for a lack of performance is some scrub shit.
I lost to kai fair and square i never said anything about it yes I don’t play on xbox and yes xbox is faster than the ps3 and the arcade the difference is obvious, everyone that plays on ps3 or vice versa complain about it sanford complained alot at sb4 because he says ps3 is shit so did andre and combofiend said xbox was shit at warzone ricky complained to but what else can you do? the thing is that why play on xbox at major tournaments if ps3 is closer to the arcade Ive read alot of articles and posts in the tech forums and in other peoples posts about it. everytime i messed up links I just yelled XBOX because thats my way of getting it out of my system, I even told everyone before the tournament i was gonna loose because i don’t play in it and I don’t feel comfortable playing in it so what happened?? i lost why? because i couldn’t get my links done even though i tried adjusting to it I don’t think I could cause I didn’t have time to play that much in it even doing normal combos. Alot of people were complaining about it but I yelled it, I tried doing rush upper loop in the tournament and didn’t hit it once come one are you serious?? thats not even a 1 frame link and its easy its obvious theres a difference thats my opinion.
Imma just buy an xbox for tournament purposes now so if the tournament is on xbox i’ll practice to adjust.
