For those who were wondering why I was playing shmups and Hokuto Musou Saturday and Sunday, please read below:
Starting Friday evening, I was sick as shit and my throat was hurting something serious. After getting done with the MBAA round robin I pretty much wanted to try and take my mind off the fact that I was sick so I indulged myself in some shmups, and – sure enough – I wasn’t thinking about how crappy I felt. It had nothing to do with me not wanting to hang with people or getting casuals in, I just didn’t want to expend energy I didn’t really have. I got hype for stuff here and there, but nothing too out there. So there you go. If I get sick at another event hopefully I’ll be staying in a nearby hotel so I can sleep lol
I won’t be doing shoutouts this time around, but ggs to all I played, good to see old faces and meet new people, and big shoutout to those who played and/or expressed interest in Melty
Yeah. I cant use Japanese stick for Marvel, I can only play on a PS2 pad, or American cabinet. I missed InfernoXHoD many times, giving you alot of AHVBs.
Meh. I got some single player games to focus on. See you all when Arcade Legacy opens.
Jesse, you are the absolute coolest. Ever. This dude knows music, movies, games, opens his doors to us, and bends over backwards to accommodate and make everybody happy. Hopefully we’ll figure out the volume on HnK one day and have it up so loud we run everybody that isn’t playing out of the building. I can’t thank this guy enough for not only this event, but for giving Southeast Ohio a regular place to meet. Without you, our scene would be mostly online, with a few poorly attended get-togethers every couple of months. I could go on, but I think I’ll just make a thread for it later.
Nathan, thanks dude. I don’t get to travel like ever, so it was good to have something like this in my back yard. Helped me not feel as bummed about not being able to go to MWC. Thanks for working in GG, HnK, and MotW. Great job putting the whole thing together though. What a success. I was going to try to post GG results from memory, but it is not in my memory. Anyway, this tournament has renewed my excitement about video games, so thanks for that.

ST / HDr crowd, I had fun playing everyone all weekend long. Getting to play arcade ST again was awesome! I forgot how great that game feels compared to HDr. Team tourney was fun, sorry it took so long guys, round robin seemed long (partially due to Marvel still running), but double elim would’ve been too short imo. I wanted to let everyone get the most bang for their buck. AND obviously we can’t just leave it at a 3-way tie. We’ll need to run it back at Summer Slam, I hope to see you all there. On a personal note, I need to get back in the lab for HDr, I’ve been at a plateau for so long, and I can tell everyone else is improving.

I’d definitely like to run KOF 2002 in Cleveland as I think we can get a couple players for at least a round robin, so let me know if you’re swinging by I’d like to get an SNK MVS board and start collecting carts because you can get so many for so cheap, but that’s a little ways away yet for me.
also btw, I think you guys did a really nice job with the layout of the place. I didn’t see how things were for SF4 but the space seemed wisely set up to me. Can’t wait to see the new venue, Jesse – summer tourney when you’re established? BB:CS will be out this summer, maybe that will be a good excuse?
Also I know the Playstation 3 created lag, but the console Alpha 2 MM between Frank and Diego was the coolest single match I saw all weekend. It brought hype and a crowd too. I wish that could have been streamed.
Thanks to everyone involved in making PowerUp happen. I honestly believe it was the most fun tournament I’ve ever been to and I know I’m not alone in that. Hella seating and setups and all the chill people that making playing games in Midwest such a good time.
