If Nova’s anything like a heavy majority of the cast, you can play it Nova/Trish/Frank, DHC into Scythe, tag, and either be able to knee drop (maybe try DP+L to QCF+Hyper for Nova to keep them low for that, if it works) or just snap. You don’t get the classic snapshot and cent rush (maybe if you land the knee drop you could, though), but Trish second can level up Frank from a touch too, and if you want the kill, the Round Harvest DHC is pretty great. And maybe unblockables?
I’m trying to run Nova/Doom/Dante, but can’t figure out any plasma beam extensions. And the team seems to do low damage. Anything I can do to fix it? (without switching chars)
Nova does mediocre damage without specific setups, so no, aside from TAC’s and hard tag combos into Doom (which you can set up via Weasel Shot and air throws) you’d have to change characters.
Main Plasma Beam extension is, 6H otg, call Doom, s.H xx Cent Rush M, Cent Rush H xx Super.
Only way to fix your damage problems would be to switch your order. What assist you have for Dante?
I use Plasma Beam/Jam Session. Is there any way to fit both into one combo?
I believe so. But it would require you to be in the corner and it’s tricky. TBH, youre more than likely going to be using 1 or the other.
Additionally, it’s not going to result in a kill AFAIK
yup best i got for both assists in the corner was around 760k for one meter off a cr.L.
full not conventional combo - cr.L, cr.M, H, S, j.H, j.qcb.L, ADD, j.H, H, S w/jam session, j.H (on the way up,) ADU, j.S, f.H, plasma beam, H, dp.M, dp.H, dp.Hyper.
the utility of both assists easily outweighs their damage viability!
So it’s still worth using both assists? Just need to learn my resets? Already have Doom corner TAC infinites sort of down.
I’ve been looking for a toolbox char to replace magneto on my main Mag/Doom/Dante team.
Go for resets
Your assists help with those
this!
my earlier post was just an example of what those assists can do for nova in the corner but really youll get way more mileage from them playing a reset game.
my team does not have this luxury!
enjoy your team and make it work the best it can for you. just really strive to know what it can and cannot do.
you run nemesis don’t you?
I know that rocket launcher assist is crazy
yeah my team is pretty honest when it comes to landing a hit but the trade for damage is more than worth it in my eyes.
ive recently been working on anti pushblock confirms and its rather difficult because in the end its still a guess but its better overall in my opinion than opening with a light or instant overhead.
my team has some mixups sure, every team does, but they are avoidable if you know whats coming. nothing like nova/beam, coldstar or vajra even!
Any nova/vergil tips? Thinking of combining the two soon
In that order? Plenty.
-Make your third a strong neutral assist for both characters. Hawkeye is the best bet, or Taskmaster. If you have a character with a TAC infinite, having them second is preferable, in which case ignore the following.
-Optimally, you want to end a combo with qcb.L > Supernova, for height reasons.
-Nova/Vergil/x should not use Rapid Slash in a combo. It prevents you, when you DHC into Swords, from using Nova’s assist to extend the loop in one of three ways.
- If you used the groundbounce with Nova (say, f.H > qcb.L), you want to call Centurion Rush DURING the initial loop. I think I called it with the first Helm Breaker, and just continue normally. It resets the groundbounce and allows you to continue the loop as normal.
- Alternatively, if you used the groundbounce, you can do your initial loop normally (the Lunar Phase will end with a hard knockdown because of the used up groundbounce), then call Nova and do a slightly delayed High Time > Trick Down > c.H > Stinger > Round Trip > etc.
- The optimal thing to do, is to not use the groundbounce. If you don’t, you can do a normal loop, then after Lunar Phase groundbounces, do c.H + Centurion Rush > Lunar Phase, and it’ll groundbounce again because it gets reset while Lunar Phase is hitting. Then continue normally.
-Off a Helm Breaker, you can call Nova > delayed High Time > Trick Down > Stinger > qcb.M, and go right into loops, or do a reset here. With Hawkeye arrows, I did c.H > Stinger + arrows (or maybe c.H + arrows > Stinger, I can’t recall; the timing is important) > either instant qcb.M or delayed qcb.M, which affects where you appear relative to them (in front or behind). If they jump the arrows, air throw. IIRC it was the same for all techs, but I’m not 100% sure. Test it out. It works with other assists too, just figure out the timing.
-With a regular Vergil combo, after Starfall, do s.H + Centurion Rush > Lunar Phase before continuing.
-Set up incoming unblockables with Round Trip > Swords > call Nova > teleport M > low. If they pushblock crazily, let them get a button instead and get frame-trapped by Swords.
-With Nova for corner incoming, I like to do Rapid Slash + meaty Energy Javelin > high/low/throw.
-Watch some Taekua.
I wish i could play Nova/Vergil, but Vergil just feels like a wet bag of sand to me, i’ll never have the mentality to play him.
I agree. Just something about Vergil does not resonate with me.
I just read that the team nova/frank/spencer is not a good team because you dont have an anchor. I remember that combofiend used this team when he was in the runback and it was a decent team.
I want to main this team because I love to play lvl4 frank and I main spencer since vanilla, and I used him as an anchor back in the days, and Im learning nova with his tridashes and centurion everything, if you have more advices or ideas with this team, it will be great to read
Thanks!
He used this team at one runback then never played it again. Does that give you any indication of the strength of the team?
The reason it’s not a good team is that Nova with just shopping cart is kinda meh. Though I’m sure you can make it work if you really REALLY work on it, the alternatives are just that much better. The overall problem with Nova/Frank is that. Nova doesn’t use shopping cart that amazingly and really benefits from a projectile.
