Still good to know though! I’m starting to lean doom for the tag combos off air grabs. Perhaps marv’s vid will address some of my concerns with plasma? (Likely not directly, but still)
Haha, it’s one of the reasons I don’t like using Doom. Plasma Beam can be annoying to confirm from sometimes. Weasel Shot, though it has no durability, leaves them standing and is pretty easy to confirm from. I don’t use much Plasma Beam BS in the vid :/. Just some uses of it in some of the combos.
What exactly are your concerns with Plasma beam? I saw you say something about confirms but I’d thought there be more? For confirms it really depends if it hit them while they were in the air, grounded or after a cent rush L/M. For airborne opponents I use standing H or just mash jabs. If they were ground when they got hit just dash up standing M works. If you need any help on plasma beam feel free to ask. Btw I run Nova/Doom/Strider
Nah, I confirm it fine, but regardless there are instances where it’s more difficult to confirm than other assists.
My hangup on Plasma Beam is that doesn’t lockdown long enough. It’s why I like Nova/Dante/Strider more than Nova/Doom/Strider. Both have their pros/cons. Nova/Doom gives you plasma beam which lets you go fucking ham, and gives you control of the neutral. It also lets you play a REALLY strong zoning game that only a handful of characters can beat. Also, infinites.
However, Nova/Dante gives you stronger resets/lockdown. Weasel Shot doesn’t scale much so your need to TAC goes down. Whereas if you’re confirming off of Plasma Beam you need to TAC. Ham Session is also much better than I thought for Nova. You can’t Cent Rush confirm into it easily, but you can set it up other ways. It’s VERY good at controlling space and for dealing with certain matchups. (Zero, Morrigan) for example. Incoming is also much stronger with Weasel Shot/HamSession. Also, Dante/Strider is MUCH stronger/cheap than Doom/Strider so if Nova dies you still have a retarded cheap shell. I feel that Doom/Strider is overrated, though my Doom isn’t near as good as my Dante.
That’s really it. Plasma Beam is the best beam, but I feel that Nova NEEDS some sort of lockdown to really become cheap.
I THINK he was talking to me, but my answer is similar. Rather than weasel my alternative is hawkeye. Tho that doesn’t much improve the lockdown. But stuff like cM sliding under a landed beam victim is maddening.
Though I was messing with the doom raw tags off the air grabs and that dmg just might make it all worth it.
I get what you mean with beam not locking down for long (enough for 1 mixup where weasel shot gives you 2 or more) but yea I agree where the two different teams have their own pros/cons…one of Dante’s being his learning curve lol. As for cM, try only going for it near the end of plasma beam since if it hits plasma beam will only hit once or twice which won’t put them so high up in the air & you’ll be able to confirm with sH. Just try not to use cM unless they’re blocking beam, standing L & M are your friends.
Am I correct dante can also raw tag in off air grabs like doom? Id actually really dig weasel-nova, but my dante is pretty weak, especially solo. But if he gives a doom esque dmg boost to a nova grab, and can reliably dhc from that to vergil swords, deffff worth a shot. I LOVED weasel for magneto, afterall! Marv, what do u think? I’m set on nova vergil xxx.

You can confirm off weird stray Plasma Beam hits with Nova Slam, and also Cent Rush H on larger characters or in the corner.
Also Sent Drones are… interesting for Vergil. It gives him a lot of mixups in a row, and since his teleport tracks it can start from full-screen. He can also get a Spiral Swords -> Drones -> High Time relaunch off a hard knockdown. That said the mixups are really only any good in Devil Trigger (air dash/double jump) and Sentinel is Sentinel.
Lil off topic (tho does pertain to my ‘nova team,’) but any idea if plasma can help pick up off a raw helm breaker? Hawk arrows after immediate swords can. Plasma I can’t get it to work.
I was watchin some marv play and while dante CAN come in on the grab, hard tag, he uses ground and/or wall bounce to combo, and I use both after vergil sword dhc. Waa waaa.
Arrows really seems the better assist, BUT dooms tag after air grabs does soooo much, dmg. Really hard to argue against it. : / decisions decisions, is it any wonder I can’t get any work done??
If you’re running Nova/Vergil/Dante, after the raw tag combo, if you need to DHC to swords afterwards, you can call Nova assist to hit during a Lunar Phase and it will reset your ground bounce, not just force another one, but give it back to you so Vergil can use it. Since we’re talking about a combo off a grab you’ll pretty much always have that assist available.
A lot of people think of this team, and while it seems godlike, on closer examination it’s kind of lacking. Firstly, Frank wants Jam Session, but Nova wants Weasel Shot. Jam Session doesn’t cover Nova’s approach, it doesn’t back up Centurion Rush pressure and it doesn’t really help Nova land a hit at all unless he’s already right in your face. And getting right in your face is what Nova needs his assists for.
Secondly, that team, even when you get Frank Lv.5 is only truly godlike on incoming mixups. Neither of those assists help Frank function at the range that he 100% dominates, max standing M range. Bee’s team works, because from that range he has Spencer grapple, which confirms off a St.M into a full combo. With that team you can’t get anything more off max st.M than Shopping Cart. You have to get right up close to make your assists effective and as godlike as Frank is, once you start getting in range of other people’s bullshit you’re in danger.
Also, you’ll get 100% ruined by extreme zoning teams.
(Actually, if Weasel Shot confirms off st.M, f+H both grounded and airborn then Nova/Frank/Weasel Shot might actually be a really, really good Frank team.)
Hmmm, see when everyone said reset bounce, I didn’t know if they meant the assist would bounce, or actually give it back! Id been unable to find a good sequence to utilize novas assist, but that opens some doors. Basically just need anything, after dhc to swords, that let’s a nova call connect, and then hit lunar afterwards. Without the assist, I do 2 helm breakers before lunar. So in theory, if I can call nova during the first helm, and he comes out, hits, and still allows the rest… ding!
The one thing i’ve tested that i know works 100% is DHC swords, call Nova, Lunar Phase. Nova hits during Lunar Phase and doesn’t bounce because Lunar holds them in place. Then the swords are still active, so you can do a second Lunar Phase which causes the ground bounce that you have now got back, into cr.H, stinger, teleport, round trip etc.
Yeah I posted about that a while ago. I remember seeing it in someone’s Nova/Dante hard tag video where they used the Centurion Rush assist in the middle of Beehive right after using a ground bounce, and he got a second one that way. And also another one after Sky Dance.
Ill have to search for that video. If a decently damaging dante hard tag combo exists that I’m able to do and doesn’t use the wall bounce, could be good to go. I assume the wall bouncing sting will appear in all of em, but I could attempt to leave it out, or adjust vergil’s follow up.
No idea how to do that lol ill research it if need be. Though I just found out doom (and presumably dante) can tag in after a vergil air throw too!! Team just keeps getting better and better! (Well, nova vergil at least)
