My dream ;______;
ammy in the beta had horizontal cold star assist
Oh my stars, I would kill for that
Oh my god. Safe Cold Star. Drones would be obsolete.
Have any of you guys seen the games of Eita? Strong japanese (I think, definitely asian) player who runs nova doom vergil. But he plays doom with rocks! I was wondering if he did this just to be ‘different,’ or if there were some real tactical justifications for rocks-nova.
I’ve been playing almost exclusively xxx doom ammy as of late, though for nova I really like drones (last night did a bunch of nova ammy sent, but not too sure if drones-ammy is all that hot. If anyone has an opinion on that, please PM me!). So if I’m doing nova doom ammy, then normally comes the plasma/missiles debacle. I know sottle has given me some sweet missiles tech, and I love the ‘clear out’ we get from da plizmplazm as well.
But rocks I never really would’ve considered. I def urge you guys to check out eita if you haven’t seen it. maybe it’ll spawn some new ideas, if its not already a well known thing and I just wasn’t aware. -shrug-
rocks is mainly used for the thc between doom and vergil
In my opinion, Cold Star and Drones is a LITTLE redundant in terms of a lockdown assist but I wouldn’t tell anyone to completely avoid it. I could see Nova Sent Ammy working. Giving Sent an assist to help him out a bit and Drones gets Nova to 835k with 1 meter so why not.
In other news,

Drones are great for Ammy on point, but I agree that you don’t need both Cold Star and Drones to back up Nova.
Thanks. Was just something to try since I love nova with drones, but nova doom ammy is definitely “the team.” (Which I see you play per your sig, disco. Nice!)
I’ve been going with plasma, but stumbling on the eita footage threw me for a loop. Do you really think he has rocks solely for the thc?? Id tend to doubt that, but if you’re pretty certain ill take your word for it. Only reason I say I doubt it is I figure there has to be some nova-centric reasons for it. Unless the thc is so much better he figures nova can ‘make do’ with having only rocks? -shrug-
He always does the same welcome setup with it where he calls rocks, slides into the corner, then energy javelin. It often seems to get blocked so not sure exactly what he’s trying to make happen lol unless the point is maybe to ground them quickly so he gets a fast hi-lo when they land. I assume when it hits he gets a full combo. Either way, I guess one ‘benefit’ to rocks is that they can hit meaty on incoming, where plasmas hitbox would be too low.
At worst, its intriguing lol
I wouldn’t take Eita’s choice too seriously because he’s really not that good lol
Nothing wrong with trying out rocks but I don’t think they are nearly as useful as plasma beam.
Very likely true, just worth considering, I thought.
That said, any good tips on use of plasma? Seems like calling it with a cM then doing sH gives a nice confirm with sM. Then I was reading back posts about assist covered cent rushes. L and M seem confirmable, though not max range for L version (correct me if I’m wrong). Though with the opp jumping around, shooting stuff, calling assists, generally playing neutral, seems hard to get a clean plasma call into cent rush on a grounded opp… unless its best canceled off a normal?
Dunno, I was messing around with it yesterday, so any pointers or sequences you can recommend would be great. I hate when my attack and landed beam don’t coordinate and they slip out of a combo. So tips on preventing that would be great. If that’s already been discussed at length, rather than retype, could you point me to it? I looked back and didn’t see much as far as specifics on plasma neutral.
Thanks!
Yeah that happens a lot, if you’re not in the corner your best bet is to just go straight into Nova Slam and force the ground bounce. That’s the most consistent way, but it wastes your ground bounce and scales damage to high heaven, so you’ll either have to reset or go into a TAC most of the time.
As for using it in neutral, just mess around with it a bit. Most generically you can use it to cover forward air dashes. Whiffed c.M xx Cent Rush L while calling Plasma Beam is one way to close the gap quickly while going in with a low attack, and at the right range you can do the same thing with Cent Rush M to greater frame advantage on block, while also hitting high or crossing up if you’re close enough. If you’re having trouble calling the beam safely, try protecting yourself with a shield, then calling it and going in.
Disco, as you seem to play the same team, what do you tend to like on incoming? 2 main things I’ve been going for so far are:
-jump up, adu, call cold star + S (going behind them as CS is about to connect)
-call cold star, cM into corner xx javelin.
These seem to be good setups, but the more the merrier, right? I have to assume something exists that brings them to the ground into a cold star so we can force a high-lo thru a lockdown. Just haven’t figured out the exact sequence yet. Something maybe like adf meaty jMMH or MH, call cold star at some point during the air normals. Or perhaps throw javelin, jump fwd jMH calling CS with the jM? Just thinkin out loud. There’s got to be a way to force it on a non pushblock.
Or if they do pushblock, maybe sottles air to air adf jH, land dash, but with cold star etc etc
Inb4 I run the team with Bloom. April Fools.
The Cold Star/super jump S incoming is probably the best, it’s multifaceted and safe. Sometimes I mix it up with Cent Rush M on smaller characters.
Add this to your repertoire: call Plasma Beam -> super jump ADDF, this is really ambiguous and people who are not familiar with it will get opened up, guaranteed. You can do this with Cold Star but it’s easier to see.
You can set up a similar X-factor guard break setup to MarlinPie’s Doom j.M/Cold Star thing, but I’ve only seen people do it, never practiced it.
One of the funniest things you can do after you’ve done a variety of mixups is to just call Cold Star and walk forward. I’m not sure why but this seems to cross up really randomly, might have to do with the different corner timing. People can hit Ammy so you only want to do this when they’re scared to press buttons.
I never use Javelin on incoming, I don’t think it sets up anything besides a pushblock guard break all that well, and that’s not going to work more than once on anyone smart.
So moonz finally used MODOK at a major. The Nova/MODOK/Ammy synergy looked hella nice!
Nova/Doom/Ammy is a better version of it
Yeah but Moons hates Doom. It was pretty inspirational watching his MODOK debut go all the way to top 4.
That said, holy crap is Psionic Blaster a bad beam assist. It’s tiny, scales to high heaven, and has looooow durability for a beam.
I was saddened that his MODOK raw tag combo didn’t go off
It would’ve blown the roof imo
Really hard to do. He aaaaaaaalmost got it on Justin.
what do you do for the otg?
