I talked to the owners of Videogame Era, they are right across the street from Crossroads mall. They are a brand new store that I believe opened up around July. They have 4 pretty nice looking flatscreens with chairs and plenty of space, and also drinks and snacks, and when I talked to Ramin and Hilla about hosting fighting game tourneys there.
Just wondering if people on the east side would be interested, I passed out a few of his business cards already. Ramin was very very open to ideas about how to organize some fighting game events to generate business. Since I don’t go to Gameclucks or the south end videogame store that has game night (I forget the name in Auburn, sorry), I was wondering what you guys would like me to pass on to Ramin for Videogame Era. Since it’s a new business and he’s not set in his ways yet, it’s a great opportunity for the community to suggest ideas IMO. What do you guys think? Let’s brainstorm!
I am absolutely on board with this and would like to support any way I can.
Even if I’m the one that has to run a tournament, I’d do it seriously. It’d help their business out so much to get some of Seattle’s best competing in their venue. That’s the biggest sell point!
We need a spot to replace SRB that has great competition. I wish I could talk to the owners too, I seriously want to get this going.
Why couldn’t you talk to the customers? haha, I don’t live anywhere close to Bellevue (by WA standards) so I am mainly proposing the idea to help get things started so someone can hopefully take over the organization.
So, tell me what you liked about SRB and if you can stop by the shop to scope the place out and say hi, and then see what you would like to take place there. I already suggested to Ramin that they have a drink fridge but no snacks to sell, and if people are going to be there friday nights or whatever for a tourney, they will want to eat snacks. But I didn’t know what to tell him to get other than chips, so you could make a suggestion (I think Pocky could be a good idea!)
Also they sell new and used games, so if people think of some other additional way beyond cover charges and selling snacks to bring them in some business I’m sure it would help our relationship with Videogame Era.
Also I have no idea what the covers are just to play at Gameclucks etc so we should probably clone whatever the cheaper cover fee is from those places.
First thing someone could do is use Guitar Hero or rockband or whatever and check the lag on VGE’s TVs, and explain to Ramin what lag is and why we are such sticklers for minimal lag, I am not an expert on this issue though.
This needs to happen, I’ve started playing SFIV again since first release comparatively with a a good friend but he’s moving back to Korea with his 0-lag online play.
That means I gotta go scene and I’d kill for a local spot to play and learn to savage people haha.
Im in for this Bellevue is a reasonable drive for a lot of people and anything to help the local mom and pop video game stores is a good thing. Sounds like all we need to arrange is dates, format (tourney/casuals), and cost.
As for suggestions, I think a release day UMvC tournament would be a fun idea, perhaps with a copy of the game as a prize. People purchasing the game at the store could have their entrance fee waived, maybe, to encourage venue support.
checked the FB page and it looks like they have already had a smash tourney. Juilius have you only been in there once? One way were gonna get the ball rolling is if we can at least have some interest in here. Post up people king county needs this.
I have slacked. I didn’t get a chance to get over there, my schedule has changed a bit. I still plan on meeting with these guys, my boss knows the owner and told me they are amazing people.
