How exactly do I do option selects with hugo?? I’m trying to improve my game and want to learn these
Any standing 720 folks do it on pad? Cause I haven’t got it yet. I suck on stick.
We’re going to practice a meaty HP clap OS’d into sweep to start you off.
Training mode:
- Training Dummy is Ryu, Hugo is P2.
- Select record
- As Hugo, do cr.MK, fwd dash, HP Clap to get the meaty timing.
** Take note of when Ryu gets hit and when the clap connects*
*4. Select Playback - As Ryu, get hit by the cr.MK and hold up. If the Hugo timing was right you’ll get hit out of your jump.
- As ryu, get hit by the cr.MK and mash back dash. If the Ryu timing was right you’ll back dash out of the clap.
Now we’re going to practice the Clap OS Sweep.
- Select Record
- As Hugo, do cr.MK, fwd dash, HP Clap, and then cr.MK during the hitstun of the clap.
- Select Playback.
- As Ryu, get hit by the cr.MK and hold up. If the Hugo timing was right you’ll get hit out of your jump.
- As Ryu, get hit by the cr.MK and mash back dash. If the Hugo timing was right, the clap will come out and Ryu will get swept before his back dash recovers.
The trick is to input your option select move during the block or hit stun of your opponent, so you’ll have to time it properly. If the sweep doesn’t come out, you did the cr.MK too early. If Ryu is able to block the sweep after the clap, you did it too late.
If you’re on PSN add Biggamal and we can do the online training mode thing.
I’m on xbox but thank u I’ll get practising this and move onto some more when I get the hang of it thank you
hey I’m new to grapplers, but hugo just looks so cool that i want to try him out, but i don’t understand the differences between his grabs, and when i should use one over the other? any help would be greatly appreciated
SPD whenever they’re close to you and you think they won’t jump. You can also use it as a punish if the move that was blocked isn’t that negative although if you block something like a DP it’s optimal to do the Clap bnb.
As for Meatsquasher I generally only use LK and EX. I use LK Squasher when there’s a moment of hesitation where my opponent and I are waiting for someone to throw out a poke. As for EX I find it the most useful when I’m fairly close and I think they’re gonna throw out a projectile or something slow. Do not throw this move out half or full screen though, it’s too obvious and your opponent will neutral jump and punish you hard.
that shit works I did it online a minute ago when I was about to lose good find… soon it hit confirm I did the Ultra and it grab him.

Framecount is one of the biggest differences.
Moonsault Press has a 2f startup. Makes for quick punishes and tighter tick throw setups.
EX Moonsault has strike invulnerability, but I’d 5f startup and can be thrown.
Ultra Throw is 8f startup and wallbounces. EX is 4f. Can be Kara’d with Clap for massive range increase. Is slower than Moonsault but leads to bigger damage and meter gain.
Meatsquasher runs at them and guaranteed to put them in the corner if it lands, but is incredibly slow. At point blank, I think LK Meatsquasher is 8f, and it goes up if you have to run at them. Most useful as a punish alternative to Ultra Throw to gain positioning instead of damage or as a cancel from a slightly ranged light attack to catch them flinching. EX gains a hit of armor, but it’s not that useful.
Backbreaker is your antiair grab. Non-EX versions are combo enders after an Ultra Throw, while EX is your definitive air control move. Can also catch backdashes if close enough.
U2 is essentially a beefed up version of EX Backbreaker.
U1 is essentially a beefed up Moonsault Press with a 1f startup.
U2 misses heaps of stuff though that ex or even regular bb catch.

Yeah, but it’ll also catch things regular or EX misses.
Pretty much has bigger horizontal but less vertical.
Am I the only one whos getting Hugo hate online? Everytime I give the other guy a god pasting with Hugo I kicked.
Hugos a lot of fun.
I dunno but I’ve seen his potential. Beat one guy with 84 on the timer the other day! This guy then won the next round but it was worth it.
Regarding ultra 1 if u are on the player 1 side, do u prefer 6321478963214 (from forward to hcb) or 4123698741236 (for back to hcf)

I think I prefer starting at 6 as it’s more offensive.
i always start from fwd (6). It generally means that out of the 1 3/4 circle you need to register the “720” more of it involves down+back and back than not. so if they press a button proximity blocking takes effect and you block (in some cases).

I just spin the stick really fast clockwise.
How do you do the Kara SPD?
I wish I knew.
So far I’ve tried clockwise SPD starting from forward and plinking 2 punches and clockwise SPD starting from down and plinking 2 punches and nothing.
Jibbo pls.
How exactly kara UT works? I’ve been trying 214LP ~ 63214K. I’m guessing thats not the correct motion T__T
go from forward, forward down, down, down+back, back lp~lk or lp~2K plinking helps.
With how slow Hugo is I’ve been having problems reacting to stuff so in a lot of cases end up going for yolo hard reads and either win big or loose big. Is this just be being bad or is it the way you have to roll sometimes with Hugo?
