Out of curiousity, how did you get used to not having a start button? Keep alt tabbing to desktop?

My taskbar is just hidden, not disabled, so I can just move the mouse to the bottom of the screen and the taskbar appears. I used to have a custom dock that showed up when I moved my mouse to the left side of the screen. That was on my old laptop, though.
I actually disabled mine recently but did you find Rainmeter took a lot of juice? Slowing down the boot process considerably?

Nope. Boot process takes the same amount of time for me.

Windows Theme + Taskbar

Taskbar showing (it’s set to hidden, I just open stuff with Windows key + 1-0 if I need to launch a program or windows key if I need to do something else). Star menu shows recent programs rather than pinned stuff which is on the taskbar. I also keep forgetting to change my account icon. Windows theme is 7Dusk. Cursor set is Obsidian (black variation of Polar). The font where it says “Hard Disk Drives” and “Devices with Removable Storage” cannot be to changed from black.
Pidgin + Steam

Pidgin is just using a black GTK+ theme. The Steam skin is called Compact and I love it very much.
Firefox 10

This is how I have Firefox set up. I was using Nightly but when they hit 13 a lot of my add-ons broke (as in they didn’t work despite being enabled) so I just went back to release channel. Pervy tabs censored 
SRK theme is a modification of Old School Black to show some of the new theme’s looks.

Foobar config with popup in the lower right corner when switching/pausing/playing songs. I have a keyboard with multimedia keys and I have a load of foobar global hotkeys so I rarely see foobar actually open… customized because I can. Theme is FooNight 1.1c. Shout outs to Nodame Cantabile for being an awesome show with amazing music.

Did you know that windows key + m minimizes all windows?
People using hotkeys? NOPE.
Like I mentioned in my post. If you have programs that you use frequently, just put them in the first 10 slots of the taskbar. Windows key + 1 opens the first program and so on until 0, giving you 10 programs you can launch via hotkeys. Not sure if there are any hotkeys for the other programs past that (haven’t bothered to check).
Not sure who you were referring to but there are a lot of ways around it.
On my laptop I have it so that tapping the very bottom right corner of it shows desktop. You can also do Windows Key + D to show desktop, and Windows Key + M to minimize all windows.
There are some computer mice that allow you to app-switch straight from the mouse, also.
And I hardly ever minimize to desktop anyway actually, I don’t keep much on my desktop haha.
On the subject of the taskbar, how do you completely disable it?
