Post your cvs2 rant here!

No offense to anyone here, but sometimes, pros can be a real dickhead sometimes. There will always be people like that no matter what game you play or what you do, so the best advice I can offer is to just laugh it off (inside of course. No need to get them anymore fired up) and continue on. If they say your team sucks, well…the fact is, your team beat theirs, so what does that say about their team then?

It just all comes down to how you play your characters really. If you know how to use Balrog, Joe, or Benimaru (which I’m sure you do), then you should be able to beat people with them. Hell, I can beat people with bloody Todo, Eagle, and Kim (though not that much with Kim at the moment), and I can even win with King (though again, not too often).

in my experience, top players are generally the nicest guys of the bunch. they can kick your ass and not make you feel like an asshole about it. they always shake your hand and toss you a good game. being a dick and a top player don’t have to go hand in hand. unless you’re talking about marvel, where talking shit and humiliating the person you play against is more fun than the game itself.

Well, I’m not saying that ALL pros/top players are assholes, but there are some that are like that. I’ve met some really nice pros/top players in other games (non-video games mind you).

^^^ then you’re just talking about assholes in general haha.

Those are all good characters though. Except for king.

Kim seems to be one of those characters though that you really have to practice hard to get his moves down. Eagle and Todo I agree with being pretty good. Just trying to make a point…

Well, what about Dan? Hm?! People seem to look down on Dan! Poor Saikyoman…

I can OCV anybody in my town with King or Terry but that’s mainly due to the fact that everybody sucks around here.

Kim’s BnB is kind of hard because of the 2-frame link in the middle of the combo but his super combo is fairly easy, just mash low shorts, qcb, hcf+K and you’re good to go.

Alright, now I’m going to sound very dumb here…but what exactly does BnB mean now?

Bread and Butter, aka Main combos. another one is cr.lk x3 xx up kick (the 3 hit one). Works on most characters iirc, or you can just skip one of the cr.lk and it’ll work for everyone.

Outside of negating cheese damage, most alpha-counters are useless.

P-groove is fine just the way it is.

This game… I can’t count how many times I felt I understood it, then realize I still had tons more to learn.

C-Yun ftw

i’ve been playing this game like since 2002 and its funny how this game used to be the easiest, most braindead game to pick up. i remember everyone calling it a one button game.

now its one of the most hardest games to pick up.

when did it get so hard to pick up? was it after the discovery of rcs?

the cycle seems to be like:

year 1-2: spam hps and hks
year 2-3: punish hps and hks via footsies and spam rcs
year 3-4: punish rcs

yea, but that’s how most of the major games have played out. how easy is it to pick up A3? or mvc2? vs decent players, you’ll do okay, but against experienced players, you’ll get worked because they know the game engine better and have more matches under their belt.

i can remember going to cvs2 tourneys and hearing people bitch about sagat’s low fierce…and then blanka being cheap…and each time, i asked them how bad it really was, and every single person would agree that it was beatable, but it still SEEMED superficial and cheap…then they went and played tekken or a non-capcom game.

but i understand what you’re saying. for me to pick up guilty gear, a game which i know NOTHING about, would be ridiculously difficult. because i would get beat handily by any decent player.

peace

Yeah, it happens. It happened alot during Year 1-2 of CVS2, back then I was playing A-Kyo Sak Rolento (2), and everyone was like " Pick up Blanka! Pick up Sagat!" Back then I really didn’t want to play any of those characters. I played with character that I felt comfortable with and had decent tools. I stuck with that team for awhile and then I went to (old) Team BAS (Akuma Iori Rolento (2)…still got the same thing.

It’s obvious who’s top tier in the game–but that doesn’t mean everyone is going to want to use them or be comfortable with them. I played N-Sagat casually but I never took it serious. In fact, being scared and under pressure a long time ago at a CVS2 tourney at UP I had to fight Jeron and by then people knew I played A-Groove, but I was intimidated by how good of a player Jeron was that I felt like I needed a “stronger” team. So I played N-Akuma/Ryu/Sagat(2) and I got mollywhopped. After the matches, he asked me " Why didn’t you play A-Groove, you’re much better with A-Groove…" At the time NY as notorious for using A-groove and I felt like my A-groove at the time wasn’t good enough–in fact it probably wasn’t but it would’ve been at least a decent match and learning experience.

I’ve tried playing typical teams for a brief period C-Ken/Guile/Sagat, and while I do good with them–it isn’t really what I’m comfortable with in comparison to my current A-Groove team. People should pick what they’re comfortable with–although I’ll say it doesn’t hurt to keep in mind the hierarchy but I would just use that info to better understand matchups and what not. I played you casually at C3–and I saw some other matches you had, we should play some next C3 or something.

All those characters are solid. I don’t see why anybody would criticize you for using them.
Learning how to use the top tiers may to help you understand the match-ups better, but if you can do well with the characters above stick with them.

I live on the EC–people don’t really like anything outside of “not moving forward” or top tiers…

i’m really enjoying a-chun li once again.

its probably one of her weakest grooves, but she still has access to stored level 1’s.

sure she doesn’t have a death combo like c-chun, but being able to blow thru opponents attacks with CC is always nice, especially getting in.

also, since my footsie game isnt that great, i can still be able to do some damage via cc’s instead of punishing whiffs with mp into super.

Why are SNK characters so much more fun than Capcom characters?

Why do people still underestimate yamazaki and that the matchup between chun and him isnt as lopsided as it actually is?

C-Dhlasim is wayyyyyyy too fun.

why do hk cvs2 players play speed 5 and make fun of others when others lose to them, even tho majority of the ppl play speed 3??
