While I see no real reason to get involved in this albatross of a thread, I just ate lunch then touched myself so I have a few minutes to kill before I fall asleep for a few hours.
First off, tetsuo, you really don’t have a clue about this community. Your basic premise about people who master 1 game doesn’t really fly in the SF/ fighting community. This community respects people who play mulitple games far more than people who only play 1 game or 1 style of game. For a long time the term “Marvel player” was a veiled insult, intimating that you were only good at that one kind of game. Even now, players who only play 1 game like Pyrolee with 3s are hated on. This community has much more respect for people like Alex Valle, who at one time was probably #1 in the world at A2, #1 in the US at A3, TTT, 2i and a top player at MvC1, MvC2, 3s. Or Justin Wong, who’s currently #1 in the world at MvC2, probably #1 or 2 in the US at 3s and a top player at CvS2 and T5.
So your contention that you really don’t have time to play more than 1 game at a high level is completely and totally incorrect. Also your lack of understanding of the community and what people here value shows through.
Next, you’re completely wrong when you say that people here aren’t doing anything creatively and worthwhile. Many people in the SF/SRK community have parlayed their love of fighting games into rewarding and enjoyable careers. Just to name off a few friends of mine, omni, James Chen, Ed Ma, tragic, FlipMeign, LiuKang, gilley, Buktooth and many many others have gone from playing SF into working in the game industry, whether in design or otherwise.
As far as hobbies go, SF is a fairly lucrative and productive hobby, as many people here have already shown. On a personal note, as most people here already know, video games paid my bills for years. MvC1, MvC2, CvS1, CvS2 and limited A3…I could afford not to work for slightly over 2 years just through playing tournaments and money matches at these games. And yes, I had plenty of time to refine my skills at these games to get to a level high enough to pay the bills; I only played 2 days a week at my very peak of video gaming (Fridays at SHGL, Wednesdays in San Diego). Usually it was just 1 day a week. So you really couldn’t be more wrong on this topic.
This was a very poor troll. 2/10.
