So my friend and I have been doing some testing to see if we can fix the lag issue or at least make it less frequent. Basically My friend tried to limit SfxT to run on 1 core and it worked for him.
I did the same thing on my end and I can clearly tell that the game is running smoother.I tried to msg them afterwards to see if I was teleporting to them but they never replied
clearly this is all speculation but it would be really helpful if the rest of the remaining 20 of the PC community would help me test to see if this can produce any positive results.
In order to do this you need to have a multi core processor (Duh) and do the following
So if this is true then the netcode was supposed to run on one core and when it got ported to pc the developers f#@ked up and don’t know how to manage resources. Same thing happened to the pc version of black ops. If you had a dual core you’d get crap fps.
Does this only solve the teleport issues? How about the input lag? I encounter more input lag problems compared to teleports. Unfortunately I cannot test this out yet as I’m downloading a huge file via torrent.
Depends on the bars. The worst could be a half-a-second delay. Usually it’s so bad that I end up doing an empty jump instead of a flying kick.
Also, would this solution be viable if the lag is being triggered intentionally like a lagswitch? I remember playing against someone where I would dominate the first round and then suddenly shit will happen on the succeeding rounds like rollbacks and whatnot.
i am 95% sure its not going to work. even if it does work most likely it’ll require 2 players to disable multi-threading which is kinda problematic online.
and there are barely any players to play with anyway.
From my experience, the person with the better of the two computers will always see the other person teleport. That’s only true if the opponent has a bad computer to begin with. If they have a good computer and connection, it should not cause any problem. This was made apparent when I tried to play the game at my school against my friend. Amazing connection (downloaded sfxt in 2 minutes) but crappy computer. My friend told me that I was teleporting to him despite the good connection so yea…
Okay, I tried this trick but unfortunately it didn’t solve the problem. I played with an HK player who has full bars and he teleports a lot. The next time we met I have set the affinity to just one core and the problem still persists. Maybe he’s doing something else like downloading stuff when we played. I never encountered this kind of problem before as everytime I played against someone who has a full bar connection everything goes fine in my end.
After further testing, it seems that this method does indeed work. It does not completely remove teleporting issues, but it lessens it. There are way too many things that factor into your opponent teleporting. They can either have a really bad connection, bad computer, or just downloading/uploading a lot. Or they are being douches by alt tabbing in and out of the game.
I tried fiddling with how many cores I should use while playing and found that around 3-4 active cores for sfxt seems to run really smooth. It all depends on how good your cpu is
