For whatever reason I’ve suddenly become interested in the times where videogame music makes its way into pop music or vice versa. These can be obvious samples, or times where the music just really sounds similar. I’ll list a few of the ones that come to mind, and if anyone can pick up where I’ve left off I’d appreciate it. I’m curious as to what we can come up with.
Janet Jackson’s [media=youtube]MROVvcmSyeI]Together Again sounds like the [on Sonic the Hedgehog for Master System.
If you listened to DangerMau5 he incorporates the Zelda overworld theme song into his music from time to time. On a non musical note by sound but by reference, a metric ton from Guilty Gear to heavy metal but also most of the Mainline Ogre Battle subtitles are titles from Queen songs.
How did I not notice this? It seems so obvious now that I think of it. Just thinking of the intro to the Astley song and the first 5-10 sec of Robo’s theme are one in the same.
Well now that I think about it Beanie Sigel also had that track Mac Man which had a bunch of Atari references sampled over Pac - Man chomping down pellets.
I was just about the mention the Rick Astley and Robo thing, heh. Other than that, I can’t really think of anymore, but I’m interested if anyone else can find more.
Wow. Neon Tiger = G&R. How funny. I used to play that game (still do sometimes) and listen to G&R, but never put 2 & 2 together.
They actually used Cindy Lauper’s Good Enough in Goonies, which ended up being put into 8 bit for Goonies II on the NES -
Cindy Lauper video with an entire gang of OG WWF wrestlers cameo… pretty awesome-

There are a few more that I know of off hand. I just have to do some lyrics research and get the actual performing artists and titles. This is a funny thread.
I was listening to this, then Elecman’s theme changes at 0:56

which sounded strangely familiar to this mainstream song
