ok… if this is gonna be on the JPN ver GGXX… why not just make it #R… I mean come one ure gonna need an import system… its not like people out there dont have #r import at home…
I have a japanese PS2 and a legit Korean(exact same as japanese) #R if the only obstacle left becomes the number of legit systems available. I’m sure other people have legit systems too.
There were almost 20 games considered for Evolution at one point or another, we wanted to gauge opinion and decided to ask the players. Obviously they didnt like it, but dont rule it out for a side tournament.
Yeah, people can practice pretty easily for low cost(100$ isn’t TOO bad)…but another problem is…how many people have legit japanese PS2’s and legit copies of #R? I’m pretty sure they mentioned before that they won’t run any illegal copies of anything because, well, that’s just like doing something illegal in public and playing burned games at a major tournament would look bad I think. That includes running japanese games on american systems I believe…not sure though? Do they allow pirated games/modded/fliptop PS2’s at EVO?
Well, obvoiusly we could get a poll of people able to bring the various supplies needed. I really don’t think that will be the issue, its whether it will be good for the community or not.
100$ isn’t a lot that is true, but when you’re saving all your extra cash for Evo it becomes expensive really fast. Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer it be #R too, but it would suck for those of us who don’t have the extra funds to spend on a copy so we can be properly prepapred.
A fliptop is like $40 including shipping; I bought #r on ebay for like $25. If you are a warez king it’s even cheaper. If you can’t get $70 max before EVO then you got problems. It’s especially easy if you practice as a crew and everyone can just pitch in.
Also, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say if you aren’t playing #r at this point then you probably aren’t as competitive as everyone else. All of the Japanese play it, and I for one hit up those videos like I’m jonzin for some red balls.
I understand that most arcades only have XX, but everyone I know practices on #r, or at least wants to. I don’t think the fact that arcades can’t keep up with the game should be an excuse as to why it shouldn’t be #r.
And as for only using US systems…many people in this thread have already volunteered to bring Jap or fliptop systems, so there’s really no excuse.
Here’s my reason for still playing XX, all the tournaments that i go to are XX and the ones that also had #r have had significantly smaller numbers in #r.
Yes, all the Japanese play it but what does that have to do with the US? Unless you plan on having japanese players over or are going to Japan… not much IMO.
I’m not trying to diss #r or anything, but the only reason I’d want to play it with friends to get better in it, would be to play it in decent sized at best tournaments and I just don’t see many at all.
Maybe Evo might be able to switch some people to #reload but I really don’t know how many people I’d trust to switch and maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather a large XX tournament opposed to a smaller #reload tournament…
oh well, just my two cents, I think everyone agrees though that if it IS switched, the decision should be made very soon and players should be informed asap.
XX tourneys are bigger only because reload players are playing both. If the EC reload players only choose one of the two tourneys, XX would have many fewer players than it did.
The only reason most tournaments are still XX is because #r cabinets are almost unheard of.
But yeah, it definitely needs to be decided soon.
I will say it is easier to go from XX to #r, than the other way around. Once you start heavily playing #r and then try to adjust back to the XX speed difference it’s like playing Rise of the Robots or some shit.
There is no speed difference in XX-#R. Dunno if you meant frame differences.
Learning to play #R for Johnny was MUCH harder than readjusting to XX. It took me a good month or month and a half to fully adjust to using my character, and that’s when I went on 8 hour sessions of playing #R on weekends. I just played XX again for the first time in like a year a few weeks ago, and it took me all of 1 day to get used to it again. Yeah, when you first fire it up it feels strange, but it takes very little to readjust to. I think the main point is that some of the characters(and the most popular in America coincidentally) need to learn entirely new tactics and combos for #R since their old crap is gone/altered.
Anyhow, yeah…this needs to be firmed up very soon. Some people have never played #R even once, and unless they get plenty of time to practice then it’s not fair.
There is a speed difference between the two, and XX is slower.
I didn’t really mean an easier adjustment as far as learning the new character changes. I meant that once your get used to the speed change in #r and then come back to XX, you start whiffing wakeup moves and shit for a while. At least I do. You bring up a good point though and hopefully someone is reading this thread.
i dunno what you guys are talking about speed wise. As ive said before though, some mod chipps play XX And Reload slower.
As for the speed i havnt noticed anything, though you do air dash faster in R.(or its more to say that since jumping takes longer its easier as well to get the lowest to the ground etc.)
Frames are frames guys, if they changed the wakeup to make it more frames ,then that would be slower, but the game itself runs at 60 fps (or it should…) and has only changed what was mentioned. Pushback seems to be increased, leading to less BS’y rushdowns, and may make it feel slower, but that is not actually the case. Now, if modchips don’t run it at 60 fps, well, don’t blame me, get a flip top.
I was going to post saying there were no actual “speed” differences because that would kinda ruin frame data, but I didn’t wanna sound dumb if I was wrong. I think #R just feels faster because of some gameplay switches…also, I’ve encountered a weird sort of glitch on my JPS2(I don’t use modchip) where if I leave #R on for a little while, it will randomly go MUCH faster, and it’s not my JPS2 overheating or anything. Dunno why it does that, but once in a while it will sorta glitch into warpspeed. Doubt it’s a bug rather than just something with my PS2. I watched some japanese vids of XX and #R, and the only thing I can really attribute to seeming faster/slower is the jumping/airdashing. Move speed seems the same, the screen “pans” a bit more…I’m not exactly sure what it is. It either gives you more room to move around or the screen made the characters smaller overall when you’re a full screen away…but it’s one of those two.
