Not really. Damage scaling hits these kind of combos pretty hard, and that’s not even mentioning the pretty substantial “guts scaling” that’s present.
Machamp don’t care about no scaling. He’ll rip your head off, wear it and still beat you into oblivion.
Literally.
Now that I’ve played a lot more, I can personally say it’s not the greatest fighting game ever, but it’s so damn good to play. I’m actually happy it’s in evo and sf4 isn’t
Not really, any character can combo into his burst mode into burst attack with the right assist and right situation.
I suppose the better term would be hit-confirming into it, since Braixen is the only character who can cancel attacks into Support. Off the top of my head, other characters would have to do something off of a raw Support call to get it to work (e.g Diglett).
Though I suppose either way I could have done more research before making that statement, not 100% familiar with the entire cast yet.
You can hitconfirm into Diglett/Farfetch’d in multiple ways with pretty much all the characters (wallsplats for exemple). That’s pretty much what I did in the latter half of my combovideo.
Guess I just suck at theory fighting then.
Ugh… Braixen comboing from outide Burst mode to BA itself? Like he needed any more options…
Not all characters can combo into ‘Super’ in this game. Mewtwo’s, and I’m pretty certain Gengar’s, both will whiff if the opponent is in block or hit stun. Yes, they’re both ground-based grabs. They’re also both given god-awful range for their drawbacks, namely that if the opponent is a fraction of an inch off the ground, they miss. At least those two have damage in the top 4 as a reward.
Then there’s Shadow Mewtwo’s… which is the entire fucking screen, and in the top 3 for damage, edging out even normal Mewtwo’s.
Actually you can combo into those as well, it’s also in the combovideo.
Wait what? What is it about Yveltal’s assist that allows him to do that? I thought you couldn’t combo into those two at all, since I’ve tried using normal hitstun and failed.
Dropping the second multichar video here. Have fun.
You need a crumple/stun to combo into grabs, or a special kind of move (like Gengar’s Hypnosis). Yveltal’s pool crumples opponents, Gengar’s hypnosis lets you grab right after, whether normal or burst, and Mewtwo’s crit Confusion in 1.1 (doesn’t work anymore in 1.2) used to stun, so you could combo into your burst.
I’m trying to learn other characters and so far Charizard’s fun but his frame data is so damn long, and is it possible to use assists in mid animation or is that only Braixen’s thing?
@roknin put up some of the matches me and him had last week.
Still working on getting used to everything…
I’ve been away from this for too long… Been fighting tooth and nail with the Scrub Smash Community to save Bayonetta.
Gonna need to hit the lab hard soon, since I guess this will be the only Nintendo game I can play in peace since scrubbery is being left at the door.
Thanks for posting this!
I’ll be posting Pokken vids as regularly as I can. Taking a break from Smash to focus on this and my main game, SFV… Pokken is fun as fuck. Not certain how serious I’ll be, but I do like learning it.
Problem right now is just getting used to mode switches, and learning what combos when… as well as what each PKMN can do and how to punish.
…so basically I have to learn everything >.>
EDIT: ah, also, this is an earlier set with friends (with salty commentary), prior to my Sceptile switch IIRC.
Any feedback appreciated. Game is way more complex than I expected, tbh.
So, playing around with Yveltal support and Mewtwo’s Burst attack, it seems like it won’t allow him to combo from outside of Burst Mode to Burst Attack like Farfetch’d does for strike-based ones. That’s a shame, and it kinda hurts Mewtwo’s overall place on the tier list, since he’s a much more straightforward character than Gengar.
Since I’ve moved to Mewtwo from Lucario, what support and cheer set seems best for him?
I was using Dugtrio/Cubone and Whimsical (trying to roll for burst meter), but that doesn’t seem quite as fruitful as I thought it’d be, and moved to Jirachi/Whimsicott (but heavily favoring Jirachi), and the one that gives 40% meter on win, and full support on loss (not sure if it’s Pressure or Special), and getting full meter by mid round 2. I haven’t found Yveltal/Latios to be all that great, even with full supports, since they both take a LONG time to charge even with 60 points in Strategy.
Reshiram/Cress, Diglett, Togekiss/Rotom, Yveltal/Latios, Espeon/Umbreon, Victini/Dragonite, Croagunk/Sylveon, Frogadier/Eevee, Fennekin/Emolga…
I’m pretty sure all the supports can work well with mewtwo and that it mostly depends on which one would complement your playstyle more. I’m a fan of Latios/Yveltal because I like doing fancy, unoptimized stuff (and because it sometimes works really well).
Yveltal/Latios I’ve found is a pretty good support set for Braixen; not only because you can cancel into them, but Braixen builds support gauge just by attacking (on hit, on block, or if you use Sunny Day) so you can get them reasonably quickly even with their slow charge times if you play right. Braixen cancelling into Yveltal gives you combo potential while Latios is decent for set-ups or just locking the opponent down in Duel Phase (since the beams last longer than Yveltal’s attack).
With Lucario I haven’t really narrowed down which support set to use, I’ve mostly been rolling with Espeon/Umbreon.
Aside from HYDEgaming1, are there any other YouTube channels that uploads Pokkén Tournament matches?
I think I just ran into a bug.
Opponent’s Sceptile vs. my Mewtwo, we’re both in Burst mode. I bait out his BA, then dash in to punish with my own, since he should be negative enough. I hit BA, and somehow, he manages to BLOCK it while being on the ground. Major WTF moment.
