I have no idea what EV training is. Lol.
^ Read nigga…
You know how you heard like back in the day that a pokemon you raised with rare candies isn’t as strong as something you raised by hand?
Well each pokemon you kill gives you something called EVs or Effort Values, certain pokemon give certain effort values that can be in one of six stats which are (HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed), you wont know which pokemon gives what effort values unless the games been data mined(people have charts of what pokemon give what EVs all over the internet).
If you want your pokemon to specialize in something, whether its being bulky or just being speedy powerhouse, you can instill these traits in it by training and battling.
You can have a total of 510 EVs, and 255 for each stat…
Saitsu does a better job of explaining in the megaposts, man if only the OP would link those ehem
The above posts pretty much cover it but, just to simplify it:
You know how you invest points into different stats in an RPG to determine your character’s strengths and weaknesses? It’s basically the same thing here, except those stats depend on what Pokemon you defeat. Every Pokemon you defeat gives you a bonus toward a certain stat or stats, so you want to pick and choose which Pokemon you fight to allocate those (limited) bonuses to the stats you want them in.
Find @Saitsu’s post on it for an in-depth guide.
Yeah, it’s at the top of one of these pages. I do have it saved on a word document though if you want me to repost it.

Well, there’s only a day and change left until X/Y come out… Why not just make the Competitive Battling Thread now?
…Who’s making it?
I also wanted to add that with Super Training, the old EV training methods are pretty redundant and outmoded.
Now, in X/Y you have access to training minigames that do what EV training does in a fraction of the time and can unlock special “training bags” that add a specific amount of EVs for that particular stat. Not only that, but doing well at the minigames can reward you with rare items like PP Ups…
Super Training is that shit.

…Who’s making it?
I was guessing either you, po pimpus, or someone else who’s knowledgable about the topic and is able to keep up with the thread… You know, editing the OP with info, guides and whatnot. A lot of us are going to pitch in anyway, so I guess who makes it doesn’t really matter.
Eh, I will if Saitsu doesn’t want to.
I think the bigger is this… Smogon rules or SRK rules.
I’d make it…if I actually could guarantee that I would own X/Y.

If y’all wanna play Smogon rules, I’ll respect the decision if we get some organized play going, but I’m taking the limiters off otherwise-- Ubers, OHKOs, Evasion, Moody, MegaBlaziken/Gengar/Mewtwo… I give zero fucks…
GameFreak clearly wants to me to go balls to the wall, and my friends and I are gonna do just that.
Wild, Wild West Pokemon Shootout: Break out before you get bum-rushed.
inb4 Smogon says “You have to have your Mega Evo be your Lead and you have to Mega Evolve immediately”. Can’t have too much thinking on who could possibly be the Mega. Not on their watch.

they would never do such a ban like that, when the wouldn’t allow non-speed boost blaziken and non-sand rush excadrill to be played, they wouldn’t do something more complicated
on the other hand, megavolving on turn one could be very beneficial depending on the opponents team

Making this the official rule.

You’re right, they’d just ban the ability to MegaEvolve under the “Mega Clause” so Smogon bestie Tyranitar doesn’t get sent to the Shadow Realm.
LOL @ Smogon doesn’t do complex bans… “But we’ll get rid of entire abilities under pretense of Evasion Clause to get Garchomp back into OU play, even if it makes mons like Cacturne and Froslass arguably worse than they already were!”
Sorry, but that whole Smogon only tries to make a fair and balanced competitive environment flew right out the window when the never any better than UU Blaze Blaziken is suddenly too good despite the fact that less than 1% of the player base even had access to the “broken” ability, along with whatever credibility they once had…
EDIT: I hate to come off as so vitriolic, but its clear to me that this game is just too damn chaotic to be trying to make it all fit into some nice, neat little box of ‘fair and balanced’…
Pokemon is like Marvel- A bunch of broken shit going up against other broken shit. Stop trying to limit everybody and embrace the chaos.
I’ll set up the thread work and everything tomorrow. You all should start listing things you want the OP.

Wait, how can that be possible? Mega Gengar isn’t Mega Gengar without an item.
EXPLAIN THAT!
Well yes thats true then he doesn’t have one after the evo. Soooo no…items…
