you can’t just sucker punch, if you sucker punch and gengar uses sub you lose, so your alternative is earthquake…but then you risk him using shadow ball which i’m fairly certain would OHKO dugtrio…so you lose
it’s not a counter and barely even a check, it’s a complete mind fuckery of who can outpredict who and gengar has the less risky predictions (as even if he subs and dugtrio earthquakes, he could probably still win)
Which is what I put in the post. Didn’t say it was a check. Just said that it’s a mind game.
But the reality is that right now, I can’t think of a legitimate counter/check on Mega Gengar. Dugtrio CAN beat him, but it’s requires mind reading. Scarf Trio might be able to do it though.
Rather than quote our friend here thats the beauty of strategic battles and mind games. Sub? Attack? Are you feeling lucky? And on top of that your opponent. Knowing them can help too.
All this MegaGengar fear has me thinking… How would MegaKangaskhan’s Pursuit work? Would just do the regular Pursuit thing, or will you get a Parental Bond-boosted Pursuit that hits twice and will surely kill MegaGengar whether it retreats or stays?
All this talk of banning things and the game hasn’t even released yet… I can hear the anuses puckering from here…
Smogon is already losing their shit suggesting putting MegaMewtwo Y in its own tier… SMH
it gets like +50 in defense, i mean it still won’t survive trio’s earthquake (i was being hopeful) but it is never OHKO’d by banded scizor’s bullet punch
What I’m worried about is this. Scarf Trio is only a counter if Mega Gengar is…well Mega. If you know the opponent has Trio, you don’t have to Mega Evolve right away. And Base Gengar cares little about Trio.
i think mega kanga’s ability works like a multi hitting move, so it would break the sub first and then hit gengar, but this move works for every move
so multi hitting moves could attack up to 10 times, spite hitting twice could royally screw over switch-ins, stat lowering moves like screech are really effective at forcing switches (no one wants to be -3 at anything)
Like I said, the mindgames that can be played with MegaEvolving are just too sick. The timing that you go Mega, whether or not that is your only Mega Stone user, or if you’re just running an okie-doke play and actually have a Life Orb/Choice Item/etc.
Suddenly, all those dudes with Frisk look a little more attractive…
Oh yeah, Mega Stones can’t be Tricked or Knocked Off either, lol.*
you could trick a scarf onto a gengar that hasn’t megavolved…but i’m pretty sure that would make it really scary anyways so you’re screwed no matter what
you can’t even knock off the item if they haven’t used it yet? wow…that’s pretty absurd
and i would assume that kanga would get hurt twice from rough helmet so if a ferrothorn carried a rough helmet and there were 3 layers of spikes and SR out…pretty certain kanga would be down to 30% life left
