I read a tread on GAF yesterday about someone claiming that Gen 1 had the best storyline of all the mainline games. Ignoring his obvious noatalgia filter and Gen 1-ness, I can’t see how someone can say that when RBY barely had anything story-wise to it. You could argue that the journey was the story, but I feel that’s separate territory from actual storytelling. IMO Platinum and BW1 had the best stories.
Gen 1 wasn’t story-driven at all… There was no story. Your only objectives in that game were to get all the badges, defeat the Elite Four, and catch all of the Pokemon. The only things remotely story-related were the Team Rocket stuff, and that was only relevant because they were usually in the way of you completing the aforementioned goals. Everything else had pretty much no context and you were doing them “just because.”
technically it was, you had to one-up your rival and fufill oak’s dream of catching them all, not to mention taking down a crime cyndicate that was terrorizing citizens
Yea, but my point is that the majority of those events only occur because they just happen to be in the way of your main journey. Take Saffron City, for example… The only reason you deal with Team Rocket there is because they’re stopping you from accessing other areas like the Gym, the Dojo, and Mr. Psychic’s house.
You also wouldn’t give a damn about Gary if he didn’t cut you off at random intervals like Team Rocket. It’s not like he has an actual story, or anything. He’s just…there. It wasn’t until Gen 3 that your Rival actually started having character and an impact on the story. Then, in Gen 4 and onwards, your Rival plays a major part in your journey.
Fuck Togekiss… It can go right next to its buddy Kingdra and fuck right off. There’s a reason its called the “White Demon” in Japan…
At least now that bastard will have to run something other than the flinch hax set if it wants to get any traction.
I don’t really hate Togekiss. It’s actually one of my favs. I just get tired of seeing something with eighty billion moves use the same 4/5 attacks because people can’t think for themselves
…and then Mewtwo says “Fuck Blissey” when it switches in and eats a Psystrike to the dome. Y’all better hope for MegaScizor, because its the only thing that could possibly stand up to this guy…
Hehe, that isn’t an estimate. There was a screen shot of the normal mewtwo, so those are the exact stats. Like I said before, though I doubt many will use him over normal mewtwo.
