Pokemon General Discussion Thread - It's Lit(ten)!

Whatever man, he’s just playing to win!

I just have bent up battling rage that I never get to properly expel.

The most frustrating thing for me is just when I spend so much time building my pokemon around a theory, and then I don’t get to properly test said theory in battle either because Battle Network is full of rage quitters and shitty gameplay modes or the 70 something people I added never want to play. Lol. At the most I get 2 battles from 1 person a day, the first battle usually being after a substantial amount of pestering.

Which is strange; how many people play this game yet don’t ever seem to want to battle. It was to my understanding that Battles are a humongous part of Pokemon, and not just IV/shiny breeding for days on end, and then never even using them. Maybe I just misunderstand. But coming from the FG community I have an insatiable urge to just battle people and gain matchup knowledge. If I could sit down with someone and just battle all their different teams all day, that’s exactly what I would do. It’s just kind of disappointing how many people (not just you guys) I have added on this game and yet none of them ever actually want to play.

I got so mad when your Yanmega bodied my whole team, Cyclone. But now I know better. Now I know that that shit can happen, and I feel like a better player for it. That kind of stuff sits at the core of my satisfaction with this game. And it just sucks because Battle Spot is a horrible venue to gain matchup knowledge, yet at the same time I can’t play with anyone who would provide me with viable battle experience.

I know there’s the simulators, but I’d really rather not have to rely on it for this kind of thing. I mean, why even buy the real game if all your time is just going into breeding? What value do these Pokemon hold if you’re not going to tinker with them and find interesting ways to use them? I dunno, that’s just how I see it…I would hate to just abandon my copy of Y in lieu of some nearly lifeless, dry simulator. However it might really be my only option…

Also, I don’t really play with him anymore…it’s almost easy mode.

Once the Bank is out I’ll have like 2 more boxes of competitive Pokemon I can use. I’ll be battling a lot more often then. Any teams I make right now always feel like they’re missing something (HEATRAN). Also, I bred way too many dragons.

Speaking of which, I still need to make preparations for the Bank. I should do that right now…

I’m in the same boat, Martian. The only reason I tried out Pokemon Showdown was because I couldn’t reliably find battles when I really wanted to. That Sim ended up being really useful and fun… When it works, that is. It helped me build and test a team that I’m about to breed in game, and helped me see the flaws in the current team I’m using.

Yeah, I really like it because I can see if something is at least SEMI viable in real battle, without the trial and error of breeding and training. I just use it as a time saver, not an alternative.

I like breeding because it gives me the simple satisfaction of work paying off. I don’t understand how people can devote the entirety of their game to it, though. Lol.

I mean you got bodied so I guess it needs to get easier gun shots

I like making the teams as much as I like battling them. The random factor used to balance certain moves isn’t my favorite thing to be honest. I will still battle people now though since I actually have a real team.

I can confidently say that 80 percent of the time I get bodied, these people have Talonflame. Azumarill, or ubers on their team. Or any combination of those. For some reason I just can’t fight those first two though, no matter what team I come up with.

Or Stealth Rock, which I guess I should catch up and finally start using…

The set I currently run has Pinsir running Earthquake instead of X-Scissor.

Run mold breaker on regular Pinsir and don’t be so quick to megavolve because EQ hits Rotom for 73ish percent and Rotom is only faster than pinsir by one point of speed.

It’s super reliable, and I run an adamant Pinsir, jolly is fine, but the EQ damage to Rotom is a consistent 73%> while Jolly Pinsir may end up doing only 66%> .

Pinsir (M) @ Pinsirite
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Swords Dance
  • Quick Attack
  • Earthquake
  • Close Combat

Due to the mega evolutions and the base form of Pinsir having a different typing, you have to be mind gaming you opponent up and not always mega evolve.

So many Mamoswines trying to hit with icicle crash/ice shard, just for me to boost and sweep.

Rotom’s switch on Pinsir thinking that I can’t do super effective damage to them, nah son Earthquake that’ll be 75%(at the lowest) nigga.

Pinsir is strong, but not that strong in his base form without being adamant imo.

I rant about never being able to battle, and then kept getting disconnected from Phantom… Sorry bro. I can hit you up later tonight or anytime tommorow.

Lol, ok, no prob.

This is my Pinsir set

Jolly, Mold Breaker
Swords dance
Return
Quick Attack
Earthquake

Close Combat doesn’t give enough to be run over return and you have to run EQ for coverage. His major walls are Skarmory and Rotom. Like Bull said you can avoid Rotom and Bronzong by not mega switching because his regular form beats both of them. Jolly and Adamant both 2HKO those two so I don’t see the need to lose the speed tier. Since I run Jolly I run Return because it gives him a huge damage STAB and outspeeds anything below 105. I like to run him with Rotom because he beats Talonflame and Skarmory which can wreck pinsir.

I have an adamant one I ran as well I just find Jolly kills everything about the same with the added bonus of knowing when you can use Return which is more than double the damage of quick attack. You also need to watch out for Zapdos as well since a defensive zapdos will wall pinsir. RUN A SPINNER!

Pinsir is only in X, right? Anyone want to give one up for a probably shitty Pokemon?

Probably bred it with Haxorus who learns all those moves naturally I believe.

RE: @Martian- I’m always down to battle, but my schedule’s been really fucked because of the holidays, so I haven’t been on lately. When shit calms down, though, I’ll have a couple of new teams to try, so be ready for that.

Also, Talonflame is annoying, but a defensive-minded Rock type just laughs at everything it tries to do… Carracosta in particular just lols, Shell Smashes, and wrecks T-Flame’s life up. Azumarill loses hard to Venusaur, Mega or not, and if Tentacruel shits on it too.

Ok i finally got internet again, So who was i trading a jolly charmander to again?? and i think @po i was trading you magic guard abra for an eevee right?
