Plinking on PS2 Pad w/ converter

So I’ve been trying for a long time now to plink on my PS2 pad, but I can’t for the life of me get it to come out right. I even passed my control to my friend who is pretty good at dashing on the 360 pad, and even after remapping his buttons he couldn’t get the plink to work either. I’m pretty sure I’m doing it right, but I think there might be a delay in the hardware somewhere causing the error. I’m trying to dash with any of the face buttons and M+H or L+H as the shoulder buttons. Can somebody help me out? It would be awesome if someone can make a video. I rarely see pad players, let alone their hands.

Plink the H button (should be circle) to the L+M+H (should be R2). This works 100% of the time

I set my dash to R1 and flick between O and R1

I plink L or S into M+H(R2). Works fine for me but I also use a PS1 pad which has a purely digital input on the shoulder buttons. I find that on a PS2 pad I have to press the shoulders too deliberately to get an input and it throws me off.

If all else fails, don’t be afraid to buy dat TE.

Yeh Hamsworth! I’m trying to plink with Circle=H and R1=M+H or even X=M and R1=M+H, but as you said I really have to press down on the back buttons for them to register. Granted I still can’t even get this to work on a PS3 pad :frowning: If someone can make vid so I can get the timing, that would be awesome!

You’re pressing the wrong buttons, try pressing L then plinking it into your M+H macro, or H into L+M. I actually find it easier on a PS3 pad than on PS1 as the timing seems more lenient.

Don’t worry about getting it consistently at first, it takes a while to get down. I started out by doing 2 in a row, then 3, then like 3 forward and 3 back, and you just keep going until you can do it any way you like at will. I’ve started doing a number of different drills and I just repeat them over and over until I’m consistent.

There are already video tutorials on youtube and applying them to a controller isn’t hard.

If you are using anything other than LMH plinked with H, you’re doing it wrong. Check out Schmidt Select on Youtube. Best plink dash method hands down.

I’m with you on this. Though I just can’t get it on pad in general, PS3 or my PS2 pad with the converter on Xbox. If I’m lucky I get two, three, maybe four dashes but that’s it.

So I tried plink H->LMH again and its only slightly better. I’m more consistent with just plinking M->L. Even if I whiff im not at too much of a disadvantage and i can still chain to H. Does anyone actually plink on a Playstation pad? I’m starting to think it’s a hardware issue. My theory is that the springs under the buttons don’t raise the buttons back to neutral fast enough. Training modes show that I’m constantly getting M+H or L+M+H when I very deliberately press H then either M+H or L+M+H. Can any other pad users chime in?

I’m a pad user. DualShock 3 and DualShock 2 with converter. I plink dash just fine. I use :h:~:l:+:m: because I play Magneto and I need the :l:+:m: macro to do Hyper Grav loops. I sometimes mess up every now and then and get a standing :h:, but that’s totally my fault. I would say plink dash is doable on pad.

Edit: If you can’t get :h:~:l:+:m: down, try :s:~:l:+:m:. I don’t know if it’s going to work for you, but I feel that plinking :s: into dash is easier than plinking :h: into dash. It’s most likely because of the button placement. I use X for :s: and O for :h: so my thumb is more relaxed while resting on :s: than if it were resting on :h:.

OMFG!!! We have movement! Thanks man! So after some testing I can confirm that it is significantly better to plink with X as :h: or :s: and with the back buttons as :l:+:m:. When I was using O I guess I was pressing it to quickly and getting all 3 atts at the same time a lot. I also noticed, for the PS3 pad at least that, counter to your intuition, the R2 Trigger button works better than the regular R1 button. So much so that I can keep my same button layout just change R2 to :l:+:m:. I can finally move!!! My neutral game is gonna be so good now!

I don’t have my PS3 with me right now to try this but I was under the impression that regular plinking could be mapping L+M and pressing your L+M button then H to plink. I was thinking of mapping one of the shoulder buttons as L+M and pressing H to plink or M+H since I use Magneto

I don’t quite understand Schmidt’s tech. Is he saying map a button to be L+M+H and then press that button plus another button to plink? If is this method better for doing Hyper Grav loops? Thanks!
