Step 1: This game becomes a huge success for Sony.
Step 2: Microsoft responds with it’s own involvement in the fighting game genre.
Step 3: Xbox owners get Killer Instinct 3
Step 4: Sony will go down in history as the savior of Rare
Step 5: I go play KI3
THIS GAME MUST NOT FAIL
As for who needs to be in this game, Spike from Ape Escape comes to mind
Ok, then on the released games end,the closest example of the Meter system would be FOTNS(kinda).
Very solid logic. Ill be counting down the days until ki3!
Rare has sucked since they were brought by Microsoft. I rather see the MK guys work on KI3.
i can assure you that they would find a way to make it suck, like that you can only play ki using the kinetic
not to mention that it would be 360 exclussive, fuck that shit
can we get some hotshotsgolf bitches in here:coffee:
tony hawk and gabriel logan would be nice too. they DID help sell the ps1.
Try Hello Kitty Island Adventure they are both about equally stimulating and difficult.

An interesting preview which appears to be written by someone fairly well-versed in fighting games. I’ve selected the most interesting paragraphs. Here they are:
Amazing! It sounds like they are genuinely attempting to fix everything everything that was bad about Smash Brothers when it comes to competive play. Perhaps this game might end up being accepted by the FGC after all!!
Okay, here’s the franchises I think have the greatest shot at showing up, arranged by likelihood. This isn’t necessarily what I want to show up (otherwise I’d have snuck Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts in there), just properties that either Sony has easy access to, or are just too important to the PlayStation brand for Sony to ignore.
Forgone Conclusions - I’d be hugely surprised if these properties don’t show up in some way or another.
Jak & Daxter
Case For: Sony owned, stage already appearing in the game, very visible during PS2 era
Case Against: Not as relevant today as it was back then.
Ratchet & Clank
Case For: Sony owned, stage already appearing in the game, very visible from PS2 era to today
Case Against: Can’t think of any good argument against this franchise.
Uncharted
Case For: Sony owned, Sony’s most visible current property.
Case Against: Being regular people, it may be difficult for characters to play very uniquely. I highly doubt that they could ignore this series, though.
InFamous
Case For: Sony owned, popular property, has a set of powers that kinda demand he be in this type of game.
Case Against: None that I can think of.
Doko Demo Issho
Case For: The series that created Sony of Japan’s mascot, Toro Inoue.
Case Against: Not as relevant outside of Japan, but Toro’s many cameo appearances in games like Little Big Planet, White Knight Chronicles, Tales of Graces F and Street Fighter X Tekken have likely changed that.
Crash Bandicoot
Case For: Sony’s original mascot series.
Case Against: Currently owned by Activision - while I’m sure Crash has the highest priority, it’s possible that Activision will refuse to play ball.
Spyro
Case For: Sony’s second mascot series.
Case Against: Owned by Activision. They’ll have to play ball.
Metal Gear Solid
Case For: A series that’s entries definied the PlayStation, PS2 and PS3. Plus Kojima seems to be quite loose with where Snake shows up, having crossed over into games like Dream Mix TV, Smash Bros Brawl, Ape Escape 3, LittleBigPlanet and many other games.
Case Against: Not owned by Sony. Needs Konami/Kojima’s approval.
Final Fantasy
Case For: FF7, FFX and FFXIII have been games that defined respectively the PS1, PS2 and PS3.
Case Against: Owned by Square Enix.
Likely Candidates - Perhaps some legal mumbo jumbo would keep these properties from showing up in some big way. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t get in either.
Team Ico Titles
Case For: Owned by Sony, very popular and critically acclaimed games.
Case Against: Team Ico may not approve of their characters appearing in a game like this.
LittleBigPlanet
Case For: Owned by Sony, stage already in the game, very popular Sony mascot.
Case Against: … How would a Sack Person fight? Slaps? Use the Pop-it Menu to summon items?
ModNation Racers
Case For: Owned by Sony, a property which Sony has pushed hard recently.
Case Against: Who cared about the built-in MNR characters? Everyone either built or downloaded their own!
Ape Escape
Case For: Sony owned, popularized the use of the Dual Shock during PS1 era.
Case Against: Lost a lot of relevance over the years.
Tomb Raider
case For: One of the games which, early on, defined the PS1. Remained very popular throughout PS1’s lifetime.
Case Against: Not as relevant, owned by Square Enix.
Silent Hill
Case For: One of the defining horror series on the PlayStation, still remains popular.
Case Against: Owned by Konami. However, if MGS shows up, SH would be much more likely.
Resident Evil
Case For: While a multi-platform title even in the beginning, it was widely known for it’s PS1 appearances.
Case Against: Owned by Capcom.
Heavenly Sword
Case For: Sony owned. Very early killer ap for PS3, helped define the system early on.
Case Against: Title has become irrelevent since.
Resistance
Case For: Sony owned, Sony’s first killer ap for the PS3.
Case Against: Would have to take some creative liberties for Hale to not play too similarly to Radec. (Chimera transformation?)
Devil May Cry
Case For: Genre-defining title that got it’s start on PS2 - and remained exclusive to Sony until DMC4.
case Against: Owned by Capcom.
Disgaea
Case For: Genre-re-defining title that started on the PS2 - and has remained mostly exclusive to Sony.
Case Against: Owned by Nippon Ichi.
Mega Man Legends
Case For: While multiplatform, MML was more popular for appearing on the PS1. Very large fanbase.
Case Against: Owned by Capcom, who seems uninterested in Mega Man in general.
That is indeed the worst case scenario. I was half serious making that post because I do know how Rare is these days. If they do ruin the KI series, at least do it with class. Call it Kinect Instinct or something. Killer Instinct 3 is too good of a name :nono:
I’d play it.
Good stuff, man - I’m also getting pretty excited for this game. Even though I had some fun with Brawl, I definitely wanted something with more meat. This looks like it may satisfy that craving.
No one said they couldn’t. Somewhat ironically, I just don’t think Western studios house the cultural inclinations that make games like this seem novel to a Western audience. Aesthetically, the game is already chasing Japanese standards. I’d love to be wrong, but much of it already looks contrived. A lot of the problem is much of SONY’s IP aren’t as powerful in how they resonate. Little Big Planet is one of the few Western developed IPs that hosts a novel, light-hearted, and genuinely creative aesthetic, with characters that evoke an emotional response from the audience. Would you really put Radec from fucking Killzone in the same class?
Also, we all know about how that game controls in relation to traditional, Japanese, 2D platformers - not that the less than precise controls don’t work for that game, necessarily. But the game’s floaty, imprecision does have its plentiful detractors.
Idiots will see this as me putting Melee/Smash on a pedestal, but it’s simply me holding this new IP to the standards it was clearly inspired by. The differences between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are evident and a lot of them manifest themselves due to the cultural differences in how the respective developers feel a game should look and play. When it comes to the genre of fighting games, Japanese sensibilities traditionally win the battle and so the tastes of the genre’s fans go. Telling me japanese developers can make a bad game is meaningless.
edit
Finally, the Ignore Function works.

I actually really want to see this game come out well. I think it’s absurd that in a world where SNK, Capcom and Arc Sys exist, such an obviously self-serving corporation like Nintendo dominates 4 player fighting games. There needs to be more competition in this space.
yes, yes
This thread reminds me why I hate a majority of competetive Smash fans. Not gonna go deep into all that, but yea. I hope they never get near this game so the rest of us can enjoy it.
They are in the background of the Jak and Daxter stage
Without taking sides, I think you’re being a tad too harsh. SynikaL’s not shitting on anything, he’s relaying how he feels about the sorts of cultures that tend to make these games and which he thinks is best suited.
Naw Synikal does the pseudointellectual thing with fighting games (like triforce) and comes off as a douchebag (like triforce). How you can tell when someone is fluffing up their own intelligence:
You can spot 4/7 from the list in this one paragraph:
“Idiots will see this as me putting Melee/Smash on a pedestal, but it’s simply me holding this new IP to the standards it was clearly inspired by. The differences between Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are evident and a lot of them manifest themselves due to the cultural differences in how the respective developers feel a game should look and play. Telling me japanese developers can make a bad game is meaningless.”
Four years observing insecure people trying to be smart at a top 10 university made me an expert on pseudointellectualism. I organize the yearly conferences and everything.
EDIT: Actually I just think Triforce is batshit insane and delusional.
I literally have no idea how you could possibly see this so. I mean, really, what the fuck?
Also, I have never played killzone but radec looks cool as fuck. Would rather play him than 70% of brawl/melee’s casts, even though I might enjoy those games more than killzone. Being “iconic” is not everything.
There’s already significant reason to see good design decisions in this. I dont see how vague praising of the gamecube controller and skepticism really merits your tone. I am not terribly interested in this game, but you really are putting smash on a pedestal in comparison.
