so does this beta expire today (tuesday)? PSN says it does, but the demo info says it doesn’t.
all the beta characters have something ‘dirty’ about them except fat princess lol. she’s cool, but always being in an uphill battle isn’t fun. i just saw Dante’s trailer; he looks very annoying lol. all the characters i’m interested in look cheap in some way.
btw, i’m happy to report that most of the people i’ve heard on mics sound at least in the upper teenage range.
I’ll repost something that happened to me earlier:
If I wasn’t having so much fun with Radec, I’d be grinding the F out of Fat Princess. Her level 1 is hella good, her normals are solid, the triangle and square buttons take some time to sort out. Fat Princess looks all chubby and cute but she’ll RTSD like there’s no tomorrow. Sly’s invicibility is kinda getting on my nuts. He gets to dodge level 3s because you can’t see him on the screen; kinda dumb imho.
Most of his dumb moves are punishable on block (d.T, f.T, f.S [to a degree]) but his n.S chains definitely don’t feel punishable on block. As Parappa, after blocking the third hit of his S chain, I tried n.S to punish but I ended up trading on more than one occasion so it feels like it’s +1/-1 but I guess more getting an actual traing mode should figure things out.
Kratos will hold his own in a 1v1 as he has plenty of tools that let him deal with most situations such as good anti air options (f.S, u.S, u.T) good defensive options (n.O, air u.S, air u.T) good meter build (n.S is a safe combo starter and with Kratos’ combo potential he’ll have no problem hitting the IPS from it alone, despite the nerfs he will get come release) and good ways to deal with zoning (n.O, f.T). The only thing that’ll make Kratos suffer is the fact he has to build up to his Level 3 to get the kills he needs like Nariko did in Omar’s fight with Clockwork.
Well of course FFA and 2v2 seems pretty mashy, we won’t really know if this game is solid until we get our hands on 1v1. I think with the systems it has in place it can be fun and competitive.
Probably outclassed by Ratchet as well. The build at iam8bit Ratchet had great S combos with the wrench and he also had a very fast far reaching raygun shot. Not full screen like Radec but pretty close. Also his wrench throw was pretty awesome as well. And his supers are pretty damn good too.
People don’t throw enough in this game, some dude is half way to level 2 and they just rush him mindlessly. I really enjoyed the Beta, Radec and Sweet Tooth were probably my favourite characters to play. ST definitely seemed like the worst character for 2v2 but in FFA he’s so much more dangerous when there’s 3 people to pick on and they cluster up. You pretty much have to go all Level 1s with him though because his Level 2 isn’t worth the investment if you don’t get to 3. Also I don’t really find Level 3s that OP, I just beat some people in FFA with Sweet Tooth using only Level 1s when everyone else waited for 3. Also some Level 3s simply clear the screen and that’s that or can be pretty easily dodged like Sly’s. Looking forward to the full game though even if it’s casual mindless fun.
Stop sucking at the game. The level 3’s are easy to dodge with the right timing and mashing gets you nowhere against good players.
On a different note I got to try out the game at Gamescom and I tried out Cole, Dante and Heihachi. Gamescom was pretty long ago so some of my information may be false.
Wall of text incoming.
[details=Spoiler]Cole - Like any character his n.S was a few punches to make some distance and build meter. His f.S rushes down the opponent in front of them and if it lands it knocks them into the air. I cant remember the rest of his S moves. His n.T shoots out some small electric bolts that travel fullscreen (I think) and builds good meter. It doesn’t knock opponents away like Radec’s sniper. His u.T throws a ball into the air that tracks the next opponent he hits with a electric bolt. Cole’s f.C shoots out a wall of electricity that travels for a short range, not really sure what its good for. I cant really remember any more of Cole’s moveset. In his super 1 Cole lifts up anybody that is close to him and throws them away for the kill. If they hit any other players before they die both will be killed. Cole holds the opponents in the air for around a second and can be hit out of it making it a waste of a super. His super 2 on the other hand is very powerful. Cole shoots out pillars of ice fullscreen killing anybody in front of him. This super also falls off of platforms and continues where it left off. I never got to try his super 3.
Heihachi - S is the source for all of Heihachi’s punches! if you hit S 3 times he does the classic 112 from Tekken. His d.S (It could be u.S) is half dodge half punch, he twists behind the opponent and hits them round the back of the head. His u.S (or d.S) Is a double uppercut that sends the opponent flying, I don’t think you can follow up from it. I cant remember what his f.S does. u.T is Hell Axle from Tekken and is a good follow up after juggles. I forgot the rest of his triangle moveset. His n.C is a counter and his f.C is a Mist Step. You can follow up the Mist Step with a EWGF or low kicks followed up by an uppercut. Heihachi’s level 1 is a slow short range stomp, not good for much. His level 2 summons Kuma to run around killing stuff. On the Parapa stage I got 4 kills with it so it is very effective in small spaces. His level 3 clears the entire screen killing everybody, this compensates for Heihachi having short range.
Dante - Dante’s S moves use his sword, his T moves use his guns and his C moves use his angel and demon powers. I only got one game in with Dante so I don’t remember much. Mashing S gets you normal sword swings, u.S makes Dante launch him and his opponent into the air. His d.S while in the air makes him do helm breaker, that’s all I remember from his S moves. His n.T gunshots track but only travel a short distance, think slightly longer than Kratos S moves. His u.T does some upward gunshots, d.T does short gunshots to the floor on both sides of him. I cant remember his f.T, sorry. His d.T while in the air makes him spin around shooting downwards. His f.C when in the air makes him throw his demonic axe towards the floor in front of him, if this lands he can land an easy Level 2 super. That’s all I remember about his C moves. Dante can cancel his moves into each other making some crazy combo’s but they can only cancel upwards eg S xx T xx C. His Level 1 super has good range but looks very easy to dodge because each hit comes out kinda slow. His level 2 is similar to Radec’s, Dante fly’s across the screen horizontally killing anybody in front of him. I don’t know if it stops at the edge of a platform or something, I never got to try that. I never got to try his level 3 either.[/details]
The amount of people who refuse to block in this game is irritating, it gets especially bad when you’re facing two Radecs or Kratos because they seem to just want to out mash each other.
Just out fo curiosity, do people feel tournaments should be run 1v1 or 2v2 primarily? As a former Melee player I felt the game was at best tournament wise 2v2 and I can see more interesting strategies and matchups coming from this game if it’s 2v2 than 1v1.
Free for all would be the most hype. If there’s anything the FGC has taught me is that people don’t give a shit about bugs or glitches if a game is hype and gets numbers.
I personally think 2v2 would be very enjoyable to watch but I support both 1v1 and 2v2. Free for all should be played for casuals not not seriously. This goes for every game.
Like Smash I think the game should be played both 1v1 AND 2v2. Personally, I am not a fan of teams and if the game was only played competitively in 2v2 I straight up would not compete even though I love the game. For me, 1v1 or bust, but for the tournament scene, both should be available.
