You’re comparing characters that haven’t been realised yet to characters that have.
Let’s just take a small example of Smash characters and apply the same blunt attitude of oversimplification based on their source franchise gameplay:
Mario: Dude that jumps on shit
Luigi: Dude that jumps on shit
Wario: Dude that jumps on shit
Yoshi: Dude that jumps on shit
Sonic: Dude that jumps on shit
Donkey Kong: Dude that jumps on shit
Diddy Kong: Dude that jumps on shit
Ice climbers: Dudes that jump on shit
Ike: Sword guy
Marth: Sword guy
Meta Knight: Sword guy
Link: Sword guy
Toon link: Sword guy
Young link: Sword guy
Roy: Sword guy
Samus: Gun
Snake: Gun
Zero suit Samus: Gun
… and then they actually got around to putting these characters in the game and oh guess what it didn’t end up being that simple after all fancy that.
The nice thing that this game is doing is not having clone characters. That’s one thing that bothered me about Smash. Justifiable with Mario and Luigi but why the hell does Ganondorf have Falcon’s moveset? Considering all the Zelda games that’s been released Nintendo could have given him his own unique moveset instead of a copy pasta with different attack attributes. Same with Fox/Falco, Dr. Mario (melee), Young and Toon Link. I want to say Lucas but I never played the character.
You’re wrong. The Smash characters can’t be compared to the Sony characters because unlike Smash, Sony is running into a roster where many of the characters have unavoidable and EXTREME similarities, with significantly LESS to differentiate each other. I defy you to tell me how a character from Starhawk will play differently from a character from Resistance. How MAG guy will play differently from SOCOM guy. How Last of Us guy will play differently from Uncharted or Payday guy. How Demon’s Souls guy will play differently from SOTC or MediEvil guy. Et cetera.
I could certainly see MediEvil guy playing same as SOTC guy but where would the similarity be between either of these characters and Uncharted guy?
You can’t cherry pick similar gameplay franchises and then say all characters in their fighting game forms WILL BE samey. That’s exactly what I fucking did in the post you quoted me from where I clearly demonstrated that it would be a retarded thing to do.
Here, have fun. And that’s just the first party franchises.
The notion that ‘these niggas all use guns so they will be carbon copies of each other’ doesn’t really hold any water, because the full roster has yet to be revealed. You can’t make comparisons if you don’t know for sure any of those guys will even have cameos, let alone playable characters.
Granted, I only remember about 40% of the games in that link mowr posted, but I don’t think the roster would be saturated with a bunch of generic dudes with a semi-automatic like you have been impling. Out of the characters shown so far, only three of them have firearms. And even considering that, they seem to operate a tad differently than what you’d expect. Ryu, Ken, and Akuma chuck fireballs but do they play exactly the same?
And don’t get me wrong because I kinda share your sentiment. I honestly hope they keep the FPS representation to a minimum. I can almost smell the Resistance series making a presence, but anymore of that genre and I’d probably get annoyed. SOCOM is bleh and MAG was forgettable a week after its release.
Why do people think MAG or SOCOM would get a character? Mag didn’t even have a protagonist!!! Did anyone here actually play MAG?
I said like a WHOLE PAGE AGO they won’t be getting characters in the game. Resistance maybe but other than that I don’t see many FPS’s getting in after.
I’m still waiting on Cole, Scarlet from Dead Nation (she was awesome IDC if she uses guns), and Rachet.
I’m starting to think Josh is trolling this thread.
Who are people? Josh was the only one who brought up MAG and SOCOM. He brought those games up as being in the game somehow. It doesn’t have to be through character representation. The games could be used as a trivia question from Buzz or have one of the series weapons as an item. I suspect being a trivia question will be those games best shot of making it in as those games are too generic and they have anything that would identify their source game at first glance.
I don’t see Resistance getting anything more than a stage (it would be cool having a stage where the Chimera are trying to takeover Helghan and fight both ISA and Helghast).
What I wanna know is why were are still having this discussion, josh is entitled to his opinion but I ain’t even replying him anymore seeing as how we are all just arguing in circles now. I guess its a side effect of not really having anything to talk about.
I think resistance might get a character, the game has some interesting guns that could lead to equally interesting gameplay implementations, I mean 2 of the stage weapons are from resistance.
But the idea of a chimera vs helghast stage is pretty cool I can’t lie.
Back on the speculation front, Jack Tretton during Sony’s E3 presentation brought up Sony’s “Michael” commercial before showcasing this game. The game’s level designer confirmed that this commercial served as foreshadowing for this game. This video analyzes the commercial and hopefully successfully guess who or what will appear in the game
Interesting… If this post on Neogaf is to be believed, it seems Gamerbliss had posted an article confirming Jak and Toro as playable characters in PSABR, but the page was taken down shortly thereafter.
I wonder what version of jak were gonna get? i.e jak and daxter jak with the blue, red and green eco or jak 2 & 3 jak with the dark and light eco. Im guessing they are gonna go with jak 2 and 3 jak since he will prolly be easier to design for this title, plus he brings pretty much everything jak and daxter jak brings plus guns and dark and light eco.
Either way color me happy, he was my favorite of the ps2 trio so Im glad to see he is gonna make it in.
I’ve long thought they would use dark Jak and would be really shocked to see any other version. Especially because I think Dark Jak is the most recent one.
I forgot all about those cats but they should be good for people who like silly characters. I’m still waiting on Cole abd really excited to see if Cole is a ranged fighter like in infamous one or more balanced like in the sequel.
Yea dark jak is the most recent version and prolly the most popular as well so now that you mention it Ill be surprised if they went with any other version.
From the the neogaf post, it appears they’re going with Jak’s design from the original game. They can go with that design and still have him use his skills and abilities from the sequels.
this makes the 3rd time Jak was rumored, and hell he’s probably in, since Paul confirmed 7/8 of the characters shown so far.
and I hope Toro is more usefulthen in SFxT,because 600 health was bullshit(Kuro on the other hand had 750…the same as Cole, which was even MORE bullshit.)
