you need an original game or image. then extract all the files using isobuster or a similar program. then taking note of the LBA addresses for the game, “put the CD/DVD back together” in sony dvd generator (it’s a ps2 developer program). burn the new .iml image using the sony recording unit controller and use one of the following discs.
Yuden’s are the best though, I tried Maxell’s and TDK’s but it didn’t work. burn at 1x or 2x for best results.
Can you use this same method for PS1 games, or would you need another kind of disc (if it works with PS1 games at all)? Also, is the Pioneer DVR-107D the only kind of DVD burner that this can be done with?
I’m pretty sure this new method doesn’t work, I’ve searched all over the ps2 mod forums and I’ve had no luck, every time they mention the dvd creator software, they always mentioned using swap magic.
With this being said, I’d like to know if anyone has actually tried this, I’m getting kinda bummed out.
I have some OEM dvd-burner, I use SONY dvd+r (ver 1.3) media. For some sick reason, my ps2 doesn’t like dvd-r (any version) and I haven’t tried any other brand. The shitty part is sometimes Swapmagic won’t load so I’m just sitting there…
nothing beats ps2 hard drive with HDD loader. I used to do the swap magic thing and I kept losing \ scratching cd’s. Then I had to go online and re-download the game I scratched up then burn it. With hdd loader, all you have to do is bring the damn ps2 with you and thats it.
if you have someone in your area with hdd loader on a memory card, I suggest doing it that way over any other way. Skip the bullshit and keep the game on the HD. for those that dont know, hdd loader plays japanese games and all games on the HD will load faster.
