mars i hope you can get something going, we need more people to start getting offline gatherings together in their area, sf2 isn’t going to survive solely through online play. the ranking system we’ve been using in seattle has been working out pretty well if you want to try to adopt something similar, unfortunately our arcade just packed up because of some conflict with the owner of the building, but hopefully we can get them going again when he reopens

Agreed, cross-promotion is the best way to go. And I’m sure if a bunch of HDR guys wanted to go they would be more and happy to let them bring a couple of set-ups to run HDR on as well, making a full SF2 day out of it. That would be the way to go, instead of negativity (from either side). That’s what I would do if I was in the area.
i am willing to provide an ST cab. only problem is i cant host the gatherings. anyone in the central NJ/Philly area able to help with this?
I mentioned this in the other thread but I think it would be interesting to see some events doing a joint tournament that would bring players on both sides together and see how the numbers improve. I don’t see why both games can’t be played. You can still (greatly) prefer one game over the other but still play both. Just treat them as two completely different games (as it should be).

I had a similar idea for HDR. I am trying to get a weekly session going on here in NY, hopefully putting up my own money in the pot will create interest for a tournament and build momentum.
That’s the problem though, they only want ST…Now if its ST/HDR then yeah that’s awesome to post here but i dont see that happening. It would make sense to offer both but ST guys are greedy.
Watch out with the stereotyping. I know players who prefer ST but will play both and I’m one of them.
I think all the haters (you included) need to stop trying to prove “their” game is better and lets just try working with the non-haters and focus on moving forward, not backwards because all this pointless arguing isn’t accomplishing a single thing.
I’m running a side ST/HDR tourney at Frosty Fraustings. We’ll see how that goes.

Im not talking about you, im talking about Marsgatti, he came into an HDR forum trying to just promote ST gathering. I dont hate ST, im even willing to learn to keep SF2 alive. The reason why i “argue” is so i can point out the bullshit & poisoning of well everytime i see it coming from the ST guys. If you just let it go, shit going to spread & that’s not what i want to see in this forum.
Also i dont see how or why you perceive me as a person who thinks “their game is better” crowd. HDR is the game i enjoy, its pretty much the only gaming i play anymore. I go to this HDR forum to check out strats, but its quite frustrating to see constant jabs & bullshit in these forums from ST trolls. I have never said anything negative about ST the game.
I’d rather see players focus their time and energy on something positive, not negative.

I agree with Baklakiller. This is an HDR forum and in Marsgattis OP he didn’t mention HDR at all but instead ST gatherings. If he said ST AND HDR gatherings then its a different story. And Mars knows I got nothin but love for him and I’m all about growin SF2 but the truth is that kinda post belongs in the ST Forum.
That’s like goin to a General Strategy Smash Brothers Brawl forum and creatin a thread talkin bout gatherings for Smash Brothers MELEE.

A number of players play both ST and HDR.

IMO, the vocal minority from players on both sides seem to care more about the fight than the game itself and that’s really unfortunate because there’s nothing constructive at all with any of this.
