Money matches are done for 2 purposes…to push yourself and your opponent through a direct challenge, or to teach another person a lesson (mikhail lol). The only exception to the rule would be if you’re playing against some super star which should be played with purpose and respect.
With that said, money matches are as much as a gamble as me saying that I’m better than you at a SF4…it’s not a gamble, it’s either fact or fiction and it just so happens that said person is so sure that he’d be willing to throw money on it. To him, there’s no gamble, just that he’s better than you.
If money’s tight, let that be the excuse, not the fact that you can’t stand up to a challenge…not like you don’t have SF friends that would pitch in 5 bucks to you right? If you don’t have the confidence that you won’t win, than say that then…I’m not a believer of betting with money that I don’t have but I’m also not one to back away from a challenge that I know I can win. Shred, it sounds like your pride/confidence/ability is at stake, not your money.
All in all, I got $100 on KK and I’ll take 2/1 odds if anyone’s down!
we’ll run the tournamnet a scheduled, anybody wants $$$$ afterwards im down
just try to get here around 5 yall so we can get casuals poppin off and we can get names down early
I’m not trying to money match anyone right now, so i don’t know why this is an issue. Bokkin offered one to prove I’m free, but winning a money match against him and proving I’m not free are very different.
Pumped for tomorrow. Hope there’s a good turn out.
I’m not trying to burst your bubble here, cause I somewhat vibe with what you’re saying, but cmon you beat my DUDLEY! =P Probably not the best way to gauge your skill, but I’ll say you aren’t free. Next time we play, you’re only getting Chun. Just like everybody else, because I’m playing to raise my competitive level.
And LOL at the Big Bad Seattle theme going on in this thread. I remember back in the Tacoma Tag/early Marvel 2 days when Tacoma used to swing back whenever Seattle got out of line. Cmon, make things INTERESTING! When’d Tacoma get all bashful?
EDIT-I have to question how winning a money match against someone who’s consistently been winning tourneys up here doesn’t prove that you’re good/not free. Beating Carlos in a money match would say a lot. Because outside of a tournament, a lot of people don’t have a reason or motivation to go all out. That’s just the truth. I play seriously at all times, and I play my best with my best character. So if you beat me in casuals take it as fact that you can beat me in a tournament. That’s just me though.
I still don’t understand why you bet against Mickey. But hey, Nate’s gonna get paid as a result of it, so that’s dope cause he’s the homie hahah.
I know it was your Dudley. I actually meant to make that clear, lol my bad. But ya, I’m not tryin to get in a bunch of drama. I’m a fan of Bokkin and of all of the hard Seattle players. I love watching them play and I hope I can work up to that level soon.
Also… very excited to play your Chun Li. We played a match at Northwest Majors 09’ (back when I thought I was hot shit) and you mopped up my Abel hard with your Chun Li… It was very humbling and I’ve never forgotten it. It was that match that made me hit the lab so hard and study more. I will have my vengeance. lol
Edit: Ditto on always playing seriously. I play casuals the way I’d play in a tourney so I second that quote.
^ no hope just do, honestly for a long time i sat there and just chilled and smoked with Duggish, Elias, and Riki it was cool i was happy and i hoped to be as good as them one day, then i said man fuck this shit im gonna just beat everyones ass and now im working to beat everyones ass. Dont hope to get to that level know your going to get to that level and when you get there continue to beat that ass. I was a scrub for hella long and now im finally gaining confidence in my skills and that came from doing not hoping. Matt that wasnt meant to be an attack at all by the way i just didnt want to see you fall into the same position i was in before i took my licks
lol, I feel it man. I’m still very new though. I’m just looking to get to know people at the moment and gain a little respect as a player on the way. Once I’m a bit more established… trust me… I’m gonna beat some ass.
I would drive up, but winning last time barely covered my gas. Pretty deep drive, good luck with those MM’s and congrats to not having to worry about me in the bracket
@Riki-oh lol welcome to how we feel wen we go out 2 the dojo, but hopefully u can make it out again sometime, i hope u guys up north can get a nice carpool system were some drives and everyone puts like 5$ on gas or somthin, that way u can see ur winnings for the most part
@Riki-oh
damn i wanted to see your adon @every one Try’n to hate on tacoma
if were free come to the tournament and try to win our money then
but if you dont come down here, your idel trash talk is just that trash so SHUT IT UP AND COME GET SAW
When gas defeats you before a human opponent, ahh nevermind. Dont worry everyone, Cole is gonna find a way to re-ignite the NW Fighting Spirit.
Imagine once all our fighting spirts are back, we have what…1 to 2 events every week (3 if we count portland). If we all fully supported, each one of these events should have 50+ players.
Ps - Sorry Terrance, I can not make it out today. I really wanted to, but I have an intern meeting at 7pm and there is no way i could make it back in time =(
I will definitely be making it out to the next one!
Im glad people are really supporting this. It is hard for all the North Enders, cause majority of them are really young and broke lol. All good though, things will work themselvs out.
I’m young and not broke, you just happen to hold tournaments on a mid weekday during one of my classes. Best believe if I could come down I would just BOP all ya’ll off the sticks real quick and show whats up. It’s not a North vs South but more of Good vs Bad, locations are just coincidences. I challenge any of the winners of these tournaments to a MM of their tourney winnings in a GF 3/5 set. If you are really feeling yourself you wouldn’t hesitate to try and double up. If not…WEAK. When you MM me my pride is on the line, you’re gonna have to make it my while (I know this is hypocritical of me but I’ve seen the light) 5/10$ MM’s aren’t gonna fly and 5/10$ tournaments are gettin old too.
Online is not bad but nothing compares to beating someone’s ass right next to them. That’s being said I’ll womp on anyone online or off, I just prefer off.
Edit: It was Deezo’s Duds? wow was it Elias’ akuma? lol anyways what Mickey said…MM’s aren’t a gamble, there’s no throwing of luck, either you’re better or you’re not plain and simple. If you’re you not why are you talking.
I guess it’s smart to play super cereal in casuals but at the same time the reason my game always evolves is because I’m not playing like I would in tourney. I’m always trying to advance my game in casuals whether it be hard opselects, important max dmg combos when punishing or safe jumps even at crucial times so that when I get them down come tourney time those implemented will buff my game. Winning in casuals is cool, learning and applying is better. Also I like to do stupid flashy combos in casuals just to shine, and because I can.
I appreciate that cole, and yea work 1st most definitly, but if u can make it out next week then im gonna let a few of the southsiders that never been 2 the Dojo kno who u are and what u mean 2 the scene, but yea i hope that dream does come true bro.
Next time I have a ride I’ll be there…being a bus rider sucks sometimes.
And Cole, that’s what we’ve been doing! Hence starting up the GC series and hosting more sessions…so yes, I’m with you on that one. Get this ish back in gear!
Also, traveling to a tournament to win it and barely getting your gas covered does not equal not being hungry enough, nor is it the same as coming up to the dojo and not winning. Why would Eman spend the time and money to go there when he can come over to my house for matches? Just sayinnnnnnn…anyways I’mma try to find a group and a ride to hit you all up next week. In the meantime, practice yo patience.
