Plausible that SF4 2013 may be more than JUST a balance tweak. *Still Speculative though*

In my opinion it doesn’t matter at all if this is the last update it ever gets. If next gens consoles are as close as you suggest (they may be, they may not be) then it’s reasonable to expect that a new Street Fighter is probably also on the horizon, thus making the need for speedy patches unnecessary. We don’t even know when this patch is dropping. Most believe that it can’t drop before EVO so if we assume an August arrival for the patch, and we assume a December arrival for XBOX 720 or PS4 or whatever, we won’t even need a new patch. So I guess I should amend what I said in the previous post and expand on it, and just say that we’re actually still very far from this patch while at the same time we’re much closer to a new street fighter altogether. This would make the effect of any potential doomsday scenario seem rather trifling.

And all of this is in my view unlikely anyway. I don’t think change should be abandoned merely because something can theoretically go wrong.

Sony already announced PS4 will be here by the end of 2013.

So next gen arrives and we shouldn’t care about how SF4 got fucked up? God knows when SF5 will be here, people will still be playing the game a lot at least till then.

You might not care if the last update didn’t turn out well for SF4 just so you’d have your precious character added, but others do and they sure as hell prefer the overall game balance over new characters.

With that said, I’m like 90% sure Rolento will be in this game, at least as an added paid exclusive DLC , Ono’s tweet about Error’s mod was too big of a hint.

Don’t be an asshole and talk about “my precious character.” The vast majority of players want some spice, this is not an opinion on which I personally have a monopoly. New characters will not just provide that, but it will help level the playing field a little, enabling more new players to join and not feel like the game is not worth buying or playing.

Wow, ANYONE who thinks that the patch is coming by august is in for a rude surprise. Consider this, it was august 11(announced) - december 13 (released) for AE 2012. They didn’t have the month of suggestions beforehand, and the update was known to be exclusively a balance change.

This is shaping up to be possibly a much larger release than AE 2012 with new content added as well as additional features. It was announced on March 22. If you expect it to be out by august you are expecting that the total time would be only 1 month more than AE2012 took. Don’t forget, AE2012 didn’t have a month and a half long “suggestions” period like 2013 does.

If this patch is just a balance patch September is possible. If this is a patch with only minimal additions, e.g. a balance patch with some new training mode features and an engine overhaul to remove unblockables, october is possible.

If this is a large update with only the SFxT characters ported over, some new training features, new engine tweaks, and a rebalance. November or december is likely. If they add in any NEW characters (e.g. not the 4 characters from SFxT.) you’d be lucky to see this before 2014

LOL, at this point you can count new players picking up AE on one hand, so much for a reason.

I agree with all of this. I also believe that the patch will come later rather than sooner. I only used the August assumption to prove the point of timetables that I was making. In fact, the farther back you push the patch date, the more it proves my point that a subsequent ‘fix it’ patch won’t even be necessary. This is why I, in a way, dismiss any talk of the sky falling.

The farther back you push it, the more likely that if there IS a problem Capcom WONT fix it as they wont want to invest more money on it given how much they invested already.

It better be more than just a balance tweak. At this point they’re just playing a game of roulette in seeing how much better/worse they can make the cast.

People have always been afraid of change.

Say Capcom introduces a few new characters. Well one of them is literally broken (read broken not just top tier), since this is a game ruining thing 100% guarantee Capcom would quickly fix the character an issue. I feel this is the last large update to SFIV, but if there are new characters (fingers crossed) then there will probably be a further balance patch should there be major problems. So in other words, no need to worry.

Dun wurY itz K guyz, CaPCoM’s got. Our bak with a back uP patch jusT in case!
Hahaha, no. Plenty of reason to worry because they will end up touching characters that don’t need rebalancing, and unbalancing the game again. They will not just touch the new characters after they’re declared too good or broken. -_-

I like change much as the next guy and I will NEVER say no to new characters as they always give me another choice on the character select screen. However… I can say WAIT on them until a proper balance is established. The ports for SF are just coming too fast after each other adding new things before fixing the already established game until it is felt that it CANNOT GET ANY MORE BALANCED.

THAT’S the process I believe should be happening. Make an edition -> balance and keep balancing/reviewing until near everyone is balanced out (as no game can ever be perfect) and THEN extend the game with more new things. I know that the process takes quite awhile to do and the company does have to make money in the interim but unfortunately if we are ever going to have quality over quanitity IT"S A MUST.

With the way things are going now sure we’ll have spurts of new things every edition and a some fun for a good 6 mo - year but after that when the next edition comes out, all your prev work is pointless and it’s just an endless cycle. It takes more than a year to master ANY character and thus the editions should not be being thrown around as freely as they are now. It sucks but unfortunately that’s the nature of fighting games. The growth process is longer than other genres and the companies behind them need to realize and respect this or switch genres altogether.

There is no money in this update unless it is a new release of the game on next gen systems.

Let’s be realistic though; if they add more characters will they be able to still balance effectively with the deadline they’ve given themselves at this point? Remember these are the same people who let Vanilla Sagat and AE Yun out to play.

I don’t understand what’s the problem with learning new matchups. Most updates changed how they played and sometimes the well known combos and setups for the cast.

Anyway, I’d rather play a dynamic, unbalanced game than a balanced, boring one.

But doesn’t it defeat the purpose if some characters are barely viable while others dominate the rest of the cast? Go play MVC2 or better yet Budokai Tenkaichi 3, which has over 150 characters so clearly it’s a superior game to AE. I’ll take my boring balance thank you very much.

Lol, a lot of dreamers in here. I was shocked they are even doing an update in the first place (it really doesn’t need one) I don’t expect to see unblockables removed and I imagine the nerfs / buffs will be more minimal than AE to 2012 was. I wouldn’t expect too much in the way of new features.

BT3 isn’t a fighter. Was your point to list one fighter and one anime simulator and be snarky on top of it?

even though this wouldnt happen it would be cool if they added a function for if you owned sfxt, you’d get the 4 characters for free…

BT3 isn’t a fighter as much as Smash Bros. isn’t a fighter.

Lol whatever you have to tell yourself.
