Planning on fixing this stick up

I was cleaning my room today and found my DC fighting stick which is a Sega Saturn Virtua Fighting Stick HSS-0136 with DC labels and a DC cable. It’s really beat up. I had this since 2000. Bought it at a convention.

I went and took it apart to check the inside out and found this…

I’m guessing this is a Sega Saturn to DC converter. I’ll prollie take it out and make a case for the PCB since I also own a Saturn and want to get me some old Capcom games for it.

The stick is a Seimitsu LS-56-1. The stick is really loose so I’ll be replacing it with a new LS-56-1 I have laying around.

As for the buttons. I have a question about the PCB being soldered to the buttons. Is it possible to ditch the PCB and just run wires with QDs to Sanwa buttons? Or will I have to mod the pins and solder them to the board?

Also I’ll have to look for a template to create new art for the top panel or maybe I’ll just paint it a simple color.
I’ll appreciate any advices. Thanks

Nice Stick. I am almost jellos.

As for the Buttons, you could ditch the Button PCB if there nothing valuable on it, like the controller encoder chip is on a 2nd PCB.
Sort of hard to tell on those pics. And a Native Sega Saturn to Dreamcast converter, those are rare.

I’m not sure if the encoder is on another PCB. I’ll have to check that when I get home from work and search for mods on the SS Virtua stick. I think I saw one opened on another thread without the button board.

Poor Sega probably had a bunch of Saturn sticks lying around that they couldn’t get rid of any other way.

Damn! You got one with an LS-56? Lucky, the one I bought a few months ago came with an generic one.

That said, I believe the shaft in the LS-56 in that one is shorter than the one on a regular LS-56.

I believe it’s shorter. I’ll prollie use that shaft in the new LS-56 if it’s possible. I just hope I can do away with the stupid board for the buttons. It’ll be a lot easier for future button swaps.
As for the DC converter PCB I think I found a case I can fabricate to hold it so I can remove it out of the stick.

Hopefully I can fit that converter Board in this box hehe

Well if you can remove that button pcb and see there no major components on board your set.
Something small like single resistor or diodes can be re-wired and placed else where.

Man, I really should have picked up a PS2 Sega Virtua Stick when I had the chance. Wonky button layout, but very versatile for every single button layout made to date. Hell, I even sort of see the workings of the 6-button Mortal Kombat layout on that thing. Very very cool stuff.

Best wishes to modding it, though in all honesty, after you remove that soldered on PCB, you’re good to go. Are you going to keep it with the LS-56-01 and PS-15 buttons or are you going to be using something different?

I’ll keep a LS-56 in it just a newer one since this one is like 12 years old. As for buttons I’ll be putting in Sanwas just debating if I should do pink, violet or keep it green lol.

If I have to keep the board on the buttons it’s no problem since I know how to solder and desolder. I’m just lazy lol

Do Virtua Fighter colours (L = green, A = blue, B = pink), and make the rest black.

Also, if you can desolder, do what I’m planning for my “LS-56-01” substrate – just give it fresh microswitches; then new grease, actuator & spring.

Thanks for all the advices.
I’ll make a log when I start fixing and modding this stick.

I found some old threads on modding Sega Saturn virtua stick. I think imma keep the button board so I can use the turbo functions. As for the stick I guess I’ll have to mod the mount for future stick replacements.
