I can’t recall how many times i have defended the american pit bull terrier, it’s become a chore to educate ignorant people.

Something that humors me is that some dogs are so nice that you could probably steal them from their owners and the dog wouldn’t give a damn as long as it was fed.

On the subject on pit bulls and dogs in general–
Let’s say pit bulls aren’t the most aggressive breed of dog- which I am inclined to agree, and let’s even have a general consensus that the whole “maneating pit bull” propaganda created by the media has been blown to ludicrous proportions.
Now every vociferous dog lover always falls back on the, “it’s not the animal, but the owner” shtick fail to realize the idealization in their decrying of “bad” owners.
Bad, lazy, uneducated, and/ or abusive dog owners will always exist. Which means that these owners will always tend to want a breed of dog which parallels their nature, either because that breed has ill repute (however undeserved) or because it looks menacing.
This means that the breeds of choice for these owners, which have a significant ability to cause harm due to their physical attributes, will have to be regarded with a heightened level of apprehension. You can’t expect the average person to make assumptions on random animals which have the ability to mutilate you and you shouldn’t expect that every owner will be forthcoming in their desire to make their animal into a weapon.
So breaking out the statistics or the training manuals is good on paper, but it can’t delay an impending tragedy- only give the owners who have the interest more understanding of their pet.
Fun Fact: Deer kill more people than dogs and bears per year.

Pets are not naturally agressive towards people. They weren’t originally bred to be naturally agressive towards other dogs either. This is a myth. Look at the name.
They are safe to have as pets just as safe as any other medium to large dog that can kill a small being. Maybe we should outlaw dogs as pets since even so called good ones might bite you in the face if you get near them while eating. So what kind of Pit did you have?

i’ve owned a german shepherd and american pit bull terrier. the german shepherd was so wild and ate its own crap and would constantly jump on my back and tear my shirts.
my pit was so obedient and loving. he broke/trashed a lot of stuff though.

As far as the safety of pets are concerned, I still believe it’s all in the owner. If you can’t train your animal, get someone who can. it’s that simple. even then, I say use caution. Even if the dogs are trained, a baby isn’t. Just be careful dude.

Of course, the dogs were abused this time, but both cases reported dog fighting involving, you guessed it, pit bulls. When I see some of these ghetto kids over here trying to carry around a pit, I have to wonder which one should be carrying the leash and which one should be on it. At least the Rottwielers and Dobermens have been getting a break, but the fact remains that it’s the people, not the animals themselves, that are causing the bad rep.
