I see what your saying…but I actually get irritated by all of her roles so for someone like me (and even more so someone like Dan) this is the worst news in history. She’s emo, annoying and it’s almost crazy for me to assume that she will all of a sudden be able to play a different personality. I would hope Chun Li is a strong, and objective type character…an adult on a mission that noone can stop. Kristen can’t seem to play an authoritative role by any means, let alone a mature one. It very well could be she’s been typed cast to hell and she has hidden potential but considering the story Dan told me about her sessions on Smallville - that is unlikely.
Batman Begins is the type of movie I wanted (k maybe not that good, but that type of approach) not Batman Forever.
She does have one of the worst reputations for acting at the moment, but I know that has a lot to do with her annoying people so much, so it very well could be overblown.
She’s played Snow White, Lana Lang and some role on earthsea. Teenage only roles…and rightfully so since she cannot get another role type at this point.
It’s not her fault. She has zero training in acting and was thrown into that Canadian tv teen show at a young age. She’s been saturated into that Lana Lang role forever now. So she can’t act, and the movie is based around her…it’s not very uplifting and brings memories of the first movie (Van Damme’s itinerary placed him into that role as well).
This is her big chance, so we’ll see what she can do. The producers of this film need to be supportive because the writer and director are two guys who have done their fare share of cheese (it’s actually a funny combination) but I’ve liked a chunk of Bartkowiak films (hated the rest).
There’s no real possibility for this movie to be a serious film though. It has to be a cheese, short-sighted movie that somehow makes it all work and is likeable (like Romeo Must Die and Cradle to the Grave).
My ex-girlfriend Lissa was an actress. She told me that not only does Kristin Kreuk have no training or education in theatre, but is the ONLY actress to need an acting coach ON-SITE for every role she plays. This relates to someone trying to adjust her performance all the time since she’s that terrible.
I’ve only seen her in Smallville so I cant say much. But shes been horrible in it.She has so much trouble playing that one character across the series I doubt she can pull anything off.I wouldnt care so much if she was just part of the cast, but as a lead role? We’ll see…
I’ve seen her do some good acting in Smallville with such a shietty role. I mean, a role that was made for tv and doesn’t actually have any depth aside to give Clark and Lex something to do…
Her character on that show is random and doesn’t have it’s own character traits/development.
“She told me that not only does Kristin Kreuk have no training or education in theatre, but is the ONLY actress to need an acting coach ON-SITE for every role she plays.”
I find this hard to believe and to be honest I think this is slightly out of jealousy in that Lisa would want similar opportunities as Kristen Kreuk. [edit] what I find hard to believe is she’s the ONLY actress to need that. And how would this affect her skill? If anything it shows she has a lot of talent with no training as she is doing her training/education while under pressure on set, basically she’s getting training/education while working. If you ask me her economy has no where to go but up. puffs on bubble pipe
I think as an actor she has a lot more depth than people give her credit for and I don’t think that the roles she’s given give sufficient opportunity to show this.
I’m not sure if she’s the only actress to need that, but I know they’re few and far between. Acting coaches on set are usually reserved for people who don’t act, such as models or singers who get leading roles.
More likely it’s the polar opposite, that with incredible looks, but no talent nor skill she fills the hot girl quota for the series. If she really were that talented she wouldn’t need a coach on set. Noone else does. Even Van Damme didn’t.
What I find incredibly entertaining is that she needs an acting coach for her role on Smallville. “OK Kristin, act emotionally hurt again. No, not like that. Where’s her acting coach?”
It’s pretty funny to see the Smallville credits and see “Acting coach for Ms. Kreuk” scrolling down.
And yes Lissa was hella jealous. This doesn’t stop the fact that Kristin Kreuk is getting roles solely on looks, which in turn shows where the new SF movie is going.
THAT BASTARD BISON!
I know you like louking at yhourself on TV you sick sonofahbitch… So look at THIS! hunh!
Nobody mentioned the Bison and Charlie roles? Those actors actually look like they can really pull it off. I’m glad this time they picked a Bison who’s actually got the chin for it. But I guess that coincides with what Silent Sam said about this movie being all looks (which might work if they do it well enough).
Speaking of looks…
The Vega guy isn’t sexy enough, IMHO. Vega should be uber-sexy, not rather-sexy.
All I can say for Kristin Kreuk is, she better have a damn good serious face, because jreinert13 hit the button with his Chun rant.
That’s a pretty out there assessment imo (not to say it isn’t true). Not only is it pretty widespread how weak her acting is, as someone who did acting for 3 years, I get extremely fustrated with her. It’s not the character either (it isn’t hard to seperate those two) she constantly sticks to maybe 3 states and transitions into them the same way each and every time. I agree, she does them well…but woopy, it’s heavily, heavily limited.
It’s possible that this is what is directed out of her…which would be a bit shocking but it’s way more likely that she can only capture these few moments.
It also seems that it’s more her actual personality that is so closed in, for many reasons, so there’s even a possibility that there’s no hope for her (which would partly explain her failure to be the break-out star that was initially expected).
I interpreted it as her being the only one on site of Smallville. That is highly likely, if she were to need one, because having one during takes of a teen tv series is a gigantic sign of her capabilities. It’s no secret that she’s the worst on the show - that has been cemented.
The jealousy thing is way too speculative, I rather compare the statement within the situation’s whole since there’s way too many speculative possibilities (as always though). I mean, she can be jealous, and maybe is…I don’t know…but to be jealous to make stories up? Maybe it was just a rumour she picked up…maybe she’s jealous and that’s why she’s spreading something she knows about Kristen. What we know is that she is in the field, that’s quite a solid character assassination to dismiss her insights, but to me, it just seems too convenient. Considering her rep, her display on the show, her acting background, etc. it fits in the puzzle so logically I’ll take it as a definite possibility or an added variable to her whole.
EDIT: just read Dan’s post…so it is a definite she has a coach! That is actually hilarious that it’s in the credit but of course it would be…oh man. I wonder how fustrating it would be for everyone on that set…actually maybe the coach was used to ease the fustrations of everyone!
yea I actually don’t mind the cast too much. But none of them make you think they will pull it off…only maybe. I would prefer a much more ‘hip’ Charlie…and it will be hard to get the ‘do you believe in Magic’ persona that actor played in American pie out of my head. He’s decent, but it’s almost a guarantee he’ll be a Smallville Clark Kent type of role.
Kreuk’s serious face is aight and VERY consistent…which I can see being decent for Chun li. Nothing spectacular. She does look like a kid and it is a more ‘lost in your head’ serious face than a focused one.
Hey man, there’s always hope! Plus the analysis of everything that has to do with this movie is inevitable on here…the shittyness just promotes that.
We all knew that. I just wish that it’s going to have good action and choreography, which by the look of the cast won’t happen, hence my displeasure. Then again, Keanu Reeves did some pretty sweet Kung Fu in the Matrix.
ok, I never said she didnt have a coach? i said what i find hard to believe is that she’s the only one. Nothing in Dan’s post indicated that it was within the context of this one show. And by the way it is phrased and the context it is not overly speculative to say that part of the emotion expressed in that was jealousy. I even said slightly. Never did I imply that the whole statement was caused/driven/made up because of jealousy. It’s not very out there to think that an actress who thinks poorly of another would be slightly jealous that she is more successful? If you want to attribute this to blind speculation/character assassination on my part that’s your prerogative.
“I rather compare the statement within the situation’s whole”
I like how everything anyone else says is obviously narrow minded compared to your omniscient view of every situation. Obviously anything that anyone says that differs from your point of view should be treated with utter disrespect. No need to discuss with the person, just play on emotion so you don’t have to.
Honestly though, thanks for pointing out my attempted character assassination when clearly I am puffing on my bubble pipe.
edit: and, yes, I used spell checker and google dictionary
