I need some tips on how to achieve the effect on this cover?

I’d like to know how to achieve the “dots” effect, which shows an image of a person.

SFMC might be able to help you. I’ve seen ‘something’ similar to that in the FAN ART GALLERY: METAL GEAR CONTEST sticky.

^ I saw what he did. He used the Color Halftone Filter. I guess I’m just gonna have to play around with that filter till I get my desired effect.

I’m certain this post is in the wrong place, so my apologies.

(Why DID the Sticky: If you have a question, CLICK HERE FIRST. Image Manipulation Q & A V.2.0.1 close?)

Have WACOM pens / tablets & pens dropped in price at all?

Is there another product that I should be considering?

I think they closed it down, but stickied it so it’s like a FAQ IMM. If no one knows the answer to your question here, you can post it in tech talk and see if anyone knows there.

I know nothing of Tablets. Sorry

I’ve been playing photoshop for the past 2 hours and have been coming up with nada!

Looks like a gradient map, motion blurs, some smudging & use of drifferent brushes, blend modes, shapes & patterns. Try using those options.

More than likely they did a horizontal pixel stretch, then motion blurred that. I think there’s a small hint of a grid pattern in there, too.

The boxes in the by the lower left side can be done by using the rec. marquee on the full wallpaper image, right click>layer via copy>move it around>Drop shadow. He threw a random smudge brush in there also.

hates brushes

I like to draw things on paper with pencil. (Almost literally “instead of taking notes in class” style.) The thing is, when I scan the images, it looks all grainy.

  1. How can I make it not look grainy?
2a. How can I make the images look like black and white with no gray?
2b. Will that be ready to color? (I don’t mind the gray look, I am just trying to color my images.)

I am assuming you should mess with the levels in Photoshop. You can make it turn to bright white which gets rid of most of your scratch lines [if you rough sketch, etc]. But if you try to color it in using PS you gotta close in the gaps.

I think…

The thing is, when I change the contrast, I lose all the lines. It turns into an all-black or all-white mess.

Rather than change the contrast do:

Layer --> New Adjustment Layer --> Levels and move the three mini-arrows left or right until you get the desired result.

DanD. Hm. I’ll look into it. Thanks for the info.

thanks for the very first page tutorial. i’ve been meaning to learn photoshop, and this was an easy way to get started

Very nice and informative thread! Much thanks to all those who posted tips, tricks and what not :wgrin: I’d give av and sig making a shot, thanks to this thread

how do you make the radial gradient? Every time I use PS it just gives me a solid sphere. How do i make it look like a concentric ringlike pattern?

It’s not suppose to look like the “ringlike pattern”.
I lowered the file size, which gives it that look.

I just got Photoshop CS3,can anyone link me to some tutorials?
