Philippine Top Players Thread 3.0

Mr. Dynamic has the SFIV ones for around 10k, although last I checked, they were out of stock.

If you’re willing to wait, the asian market versions (no SFIV branding) are coming out late October and will probably be cheaper since there’s less shipping involved.

Yo guys, ive been reading around and I was wondering if I should go DIY.

I currently have a ikan/naki ps3 arcade stick. Its cheap and it works for me. The aesthetics arent offensive (well its plain black, what do you expect), has good weight and the plastic case doesnt feel (too) cheap.
I however want to feel what everyone keeps on raving about “quality” sticks and parts, but on the other hand, i dont think i can ever convince myself to shell out 8-10k for a TE stick or whatnot.
So i figure, why not try a little DIY, I think it might come out cheaper (though ill have to buy the soldering iron and sucker for equipment and maybe some sort of filing tools).

Would it be advisable for me to replace the 8 stock buttons with OBSN-30s (screw in types) and the stick with the JLF-TP-8Y (green ftw)? I read here that its actually pretty easy to do with the ikan/naki case - file a bit here and there and slap em in. The trickiest part for me would most probably be having to change the PCB. Ill probably change it to the P100 USB controller PCB from CDR King since 1)It doesnt require separate drivers on the pc to work and 2)It supposedly works on the PS2/PS3 (just in case). Ive read around, and though I only have soldering experience from highschool workshops (from way back when), Im willing to try it out - it seems fun and it feels like it would be a bit of a small accomplishment.

So basically thats 8 buttons and the JLF stick from sanwa, with ems shipping it brings me to around 3k total (+1.3k ikan +100cdr, [and, well, the iron and wires and everything] gives me a 4.4k stick with a good build and sanwa quality parts). Ill probably just use the stock start/select button it already has and I dont even know if ill bother with the r3/l3 buttons.

What do you guys think?

Edit: 11pm phew damn I just got my ass handed to me multiple times. Man i still suck at this game. Is there some sort of technique you need to master to punish whifs or blocks? Is there some sort of timing where the block animation cancels and i do an attack to counter? Sometimes i find it hard to even move when they keep on pressuring me, which is bad because cammy and sakura are rush down chars from what I read.

@LB/Laguna peeps

Tomorrow, Sept 17, we will celebrate Baamos by having our casuals!!! Haha! Here are the details:

@monkeyslayer
I could meet you at Vega tomorrow so we could go the venue. I’ll try texting people later.

I’ll be out in a bit, but I’ll try messaging people again later (YM or text). May AVR ako, I can bring it.

@4neqs thanks but i guess i live near liorec, so he’s going to meet up with me so i dont get lost. sweat

A long long time ago, Salad Country dati yung nandun. Hehe.

Anyway, I’m trying to get in touch with Kyan. Baka pwede yung PS3 niya. Medjo mahirap i-transpo yung PS3 + HRAP 3. Hehehe.

Go for it bro. Mas masaya pag sariling gawa haha~ And it’ll be definitely cheaper (though the first time I saw a HRAP3 I fell in love with it 'cause its XBOX HUEG!) And I would suggest getting snap ins instead of screw ins for the buttons. I also a 200 grit (i think) sand paper since the button holes are around 29mm (or 28.5mm… i dunno… i just sanded the mofo.) And if you don’t want the stick to look plain black maybe you could experiment on finding some high quality sticker paper and laminate the upper side and printing your desired art. Also, picking color green for the parts? yung auxiliary buttons (start, select, nevermind L3 and R3… I didn’t mess with them too haha~) would look out of place since its orange…unless you’ve got some paint sprayer and color them green.

Really? Its better to get snap ins? Well not that im complaining since theyre a tad bit cheaper but I was just under the assumption that the screw ins are more stable.

Yeah the aux buttons would look out of place but.I dunno, I like the color green lol. Maybe white would work too (and spray paint the entire thing white - gives it a clean modern look or something)

How do you do the whole art thing. I was thinking it would be nice to have like the girls of sf4 art in there lol.

Hmm should i order those sanwa parts already? And am i correct that thats all Ill need to order from akihabara? Thats 9 items total, 1 stick and 8 buttons.

OK LB guys, see you tomorrow. Di nakapag-Mega today. Sore leg, na-sprain last week e. :sad: But I should be good for tomorrow.

@liorec

yup SC kasi salad country. ^^ ahh tropa nyo pala si Gil ^^ haha

Screw ins IMO since they’re easier to work with, especially with a plastic casing. Tapos kung seimitsu PS-14-KN, pwede mo rin lagyan ng art yung buttons.

As for the art, for the TE’s and Hori’s kasi, it’s easy since you can take the top plate out and replace it with Plexi na may art, kung may Lamilabel sana dito sa pina, pwede rin para durable nad pwede lang idikit.

Pero, if you want more help/advice, I suggest you post in Tech Talk, some of the other regulars might be able to help.

well actually the last piece of advice i need (for now) is if what im going to order from aki everything i need (stick, 8 buttons). Itd be bad if I ordered and then it turns out I need another thing from them lol. Sayang shipping.

Once I know thats everything I need, ill place my order and itll arrive in like a week or two? Then after that ive more or less got an idea what to do and yeah i can refer to the tech section for the actual modding.

I believe the Ikan has like a face plat over the actual top layer, though im not actually sure.

This is the Ikan stick you’re referring to right?

It seems easy enough to make a template for as long as I can get the proper dimensions.

The depth of the stick seems worrying though. You might have to do the same mod to the JLF as is needed to get it to fit in a Hori FightStick (not-HRAP).

@LB people: Nice casuals earlier. We’ll have to do it again sometime soon. :slight_smile:

Like what d3v said yung ikan baka sticker nalang… na naka laminate yung isang side… haha… looks like ill be doing that path too for the art for my stick though i wont be doing it any time soon 'cause i dont have the money at the moment. The items I exactly ordered from akihabara are 6 OSBFs, 1 JLF, 6 Extra sanwa microswitches (for my cdr king stick :D) and an extra square restrictor gate (again, for the cdr king stick… i used the stock stick from the ikan and slapped it in the cdr king stick but thats another story). I’m guessing what you’re going to purchase is okay but I would suggest getting 6 buttons AND 2 button plugs since you wouldn’t be using PPP and KKK for fighting games but if you are using those extra 2 buttons then go ahead :slight_smile: I haven’t worked with screw ins and just read around in tech talk and most mods used snap ins so those are the ones I used :smiley: and afaik screw ins are used in thick panels such as wood
