Petition to recognize esports as legitimate sports in the U.S. to solve denial of entry

you cant nerf characters in real sports

barry bonds and michael jordan by comparison would be banned in video games

didnt they also not allow jwong to use his main teams in mvc2 team tournies?

esports can eat dicks (get it)

Gamers calling their game sports makes us to actual athletes as smashers calling smash a fighting game are to us.

Except more stupid.

Well, calling yourself an athlete over this shit is dumb as fuck. We all agree there.

This is an outdated definition of a sport. Chess has been recognized as a sport, and requires no physical exertion.

Chess players don’t complain about not being considered athletes because they already are considered athletes.

Melee is an extremely hard game to be good at. On a competitive level, calling it a party game is ridiculous. I’d also like to point out that chess actually does have “made up” rules. Every sport has “made up” rules, how do you think any of the rules of a game got there in the first place?

For clarity, I’d just like to go ahead and post this:

I’m all for the legitimization of competitive gaming, but lets be real here.

Explain chess as a sport

Fuck the Smash Community… Real niggas were trying to beat Michael Jordan and Tom Brady.

What do they do when a character “doesn’t follow ‘da rules’ of Smash”? Whine and cry until the developers nerf the problem away.

Athletes don’t cry like bitches when they get beat… They get up off the mat and step their shit up.

Fuck a Visa… Get a real fucking job and do what everyone else does when they need to travel constantly.

Fucking pussies. Fuck outta my face with this Reddit ass shit.

MJ had ref assist for a lot of his career and there rules changed that benefited his style of play.#JustSayin

An outdated definition. Chess is considered a sport, and requires no physical exertion.

Outdated? Nigga, it’s Google. If some kind of information needs “updating” google would be the first place to revise itself.

It’s not outdated, you’re just using the word incorrectly. Someone who plays Chess as a competitive sport is not an athlete.

This dude is actually arguing with the one guy in this thread who even remotely agrees with him. Smh.

Well, well. Look at all the cool guys posting their GIFs. I apologize for my peers, @dimbenes.

Here’s something you might actually find useful.

This thread has taken a turn for the best.

I dont think gamers care about being called an actual athlete. They just want to travel the world with no hassle, similar to a tennis player. Video games have a lot of international interest and the viewership for these games has increased dramatically that now even ESPN covers them (barely but baby steps people).

and they walked barry bonds alot instead of pitching to him…

BUT YEAH YKNOW WHAT I MEAN

The entirety of the netherlands is outdated

Bruh I was actually on your side and even felt a lil bad for you until that part there. That right there was about as cringe worthy as this

Like get real bruh. Those who play videogames competitively are in no way shape or form athletes. Neither are Chess players. You can be a fat fuck one burger bite away from a heart attack and still play. Can’t do that in sports that require actually athletic ability. And if Esports are in the same category as traditional sports, then why the need to refer to them as Esports as appose to just sports period? This like that Youtube vid makes gamers comes off as just being desperate for the same level of praise, attention, wealth and perks that NBA, NFL, pro fighters and what not receive, but without having to do what they do.

I’m all for the FGC growing and what not. but not every hobby gets to grow into a multi billion dollar thing in which those who play become household names and get treated like rock stars. The fact that the FGC is even as big as it is, is a miracle that I never thought possible. Just be happy with that. And should a day come where Esports is on par with traditional sports. Great. But if that day never comes. That’s OK too.

Probably because the terms ‘athleticism’ and ‘chess’ never come up together…and never will.

I also hate the term ‘e-sports’. I agree with most here: VIDEOGAMES ARE NOT SPORTS.

I play some competitively like any other who do—but I ain’t running around the room doing it.

Fuck your ‘actions per minute’…OMG get that 14 year old a sweatband! Where’s that kid’s cut-man!? Offsides! Offsides! LOL PENALTY!

~K.

know whats even more cringe than smash bros talking abt esports

gran turismo trying to be an esport

The IOC has recognized Chess as a sport since 2000.

The top chess players train physically in order to up their mental game and deal with the brain strain.

Still, fuck eSports.

Just to stir the pot a little, would y’all consider John Daly an athlete?
